Superman is gearing up to be released theatrically on July 11, 2025, by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film, written and directed by James Gunn, has so far been screened at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Ageneles.

A highlight of Superman is David Corenswet's debut as Man of Steel. The film's official synopsis, as per IMDb, is:

Superman must reconcile his alien Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as reporter Clark Kent. As the embodiment of truth, justice and the human way he soon finds himself in a world that views these as old-fashioned.

The box office projection of the film is pointing towards a big opening. So, let us explore what sort of initials Superman could garner upon release.

Deadline has reported that Superman is heading towards a $200 million opening globally at the box office. The film will be released on July 11, 2025, on nearly 60,000 screens domestically and internationally. In the United States, the presale figure is around $20 million. Internal analysis by exhibitors and certain tracking firms have estimated the number could be around $115 and $130 million.

A reason the report estimates the big opening could be its Rotten Tomatoes rating, which stands at 85% currently. The film will be released in different formats, including Screen-X, PLF, and Dolby, among others.

Superman is produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran, and it showcases the origin story of the Man of Steel, who is trying to reconcile his alien roots with his human adoptive parents. The film's cast includes,

  • Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane
  • David Corenswet as Clark Kent aka Superman
  • Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor
  • Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt aka Mister Terrific
  • Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason aka Metamorpho
  • Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders aka Hawkgirl
  • Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner aka Green Lantern

The film will mark the beginning of Gunn's DC Universe and Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. It's the first major project since Gunn and Peter Safran were instated as the chiefs of the studio. Other upcoming projects of DCU include Supergirl (scheduled to release on June 26, 2026), Clayface (September 11, 2026) and The Authority, among others. DCU will also consist of television shows, including Creature Commandos, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, Booster Gold and Mister Miracle etc.

With a positive Rotten Tomatoes rating and a strong box-office projection, Superman is expected to do well. If it does well on the ticket window, the film would boost the DCU and its planned projects.
