Sydney Sweeney, who is promoting her movie Christy following its release last week, on November 7, is now opening up about the transformation she underwent to prepare for the difficult role.

During her interview with The Guardian, Sydney Sweeney also talked about how strong she has felt since taking on this role, adding that it had been difficult for her to lose the weight that she had gained for her role in Christy. She said:

β€œ[I felt] the strongest, full-of-life version of myself. It was definitely a mental challenge and almost a physical withdrawal from being able to work out so much, which was kind of like a weird serotonin drop.”

Christy, which first premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September, follows the life of American boxer Christy Martin, who became the first female boxer to be inducted into the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame in 2016.

According to Daily Mail, the movie, which also stars Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, and Katy O'Brian, is currently available to watch in select theatres across the US and has accumulated $1.3 million over the weekend. The film, which was released in just over 2000 theaters across the country, reportedly accumulated an average of $649 per theatre.

More about Sydney Sweeney's recent interview, as her film earns $1.3 million over the weekend

In her recent interview with The Guardian, published on November 10, Sydney Sweeney revealed that she did most of her fight scenes by herself. She added that while shooting with real-life boxer Naomi Graham, who played Laila Ali, the daughter of Muhammad Ali, she was hit hard enough during filming one of the scenes, which ended up leaving her with a concussion. She said:

"Oh yeah, they were all real. Every fight that you see, we’re hitting each other. I had concussions, there were some bloody noses."

She added:

Nah, I loved it! The lady who played Laila Ali s an actual professional boxer. She’s in the air force and fights for Team USA – she hit hard and it was very, very real. She’s how I got my concussion. [I ] became a fighter. It was such an exhilarating feeling. In between takes, I’d be like: β€˜I think I won that round!’”

In the interview, Sydney Sweeney also explained that she was disappointed in herself for not knowing about Christy Martin and her poignant journey sooner. She added:

"I was actually kind of disappointed in myself. She’s one of the most inspiring and remarkable women I’ve ever met. On a lot of different levels I understood and could relate to Christy. She has her fight inside the ring and outside the ring and I fight within my own ring and outside my ring. Misunderstood. Complicated relationships. Growing up as a woman. Carving out our own paths and figuring out who we are.”

Sydney Sweeney is set to appear in the third and final season of Euphoria alongside Zendaya next year.
