Tangled is the upcoming live-action adaptation of the namesake 2010 animated film. The film is to be directed by Michael Gracey, while Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is in charge of the screenplay.

Recently, it was reported that Milo Manheim and Teagan Croft have been cast to play the lead roles in the film. The news of a live-action adaptation first broke out in October last year. This update is coming amid a slate of films that Disney has been adapting into the live-action format. Some of the earlier ones include Moana and Snow White, among others.

So let's get into the details of this film.

Milo Manheim and Teagan Croft to star in Tangled

Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim have been cast in the forthcoming live-action adaptation of Tangled. Croft will portray Rapunzel, who is known for her beautiful long hair, while Manheim is Flynn Rider. The latter is a horse rider who helps Rapunzel escape from the tower. Croft has acted in DC's Titans and True Spirit. Meanwhile, Manheim was seen in Disney Channel's Zombies.

Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi had voiced the characters in the original film. Scarlett Johansson was reportedly interested in playing the villainous role of Mother Gothel. However, the actress has opted out of the project. It's being produced by Kristin Burr under the banner of Burr! Productions. Lucy Kitada is serving as an executive producer.

Disney had briefly paused the production of their live-action projects after the box office failure of last year's Snow White. But the studio is back on track to revive the Tangled remake. The original film was directed by Bryon Howard and Nathan Greno. It was a loose adaptation of a German fairy tale called Rapunzel. It was published by the Brothers Grimm in a folktales collection. The official synopsis as per Letterboxd is,

"Feisty teenager Rapunzel, who has long and magical hair, wants to go and see sky lanterns on her eighteenth birthday, but she’s bound to a tower by her overprotective mother. She strikes a deal with Flynn Rider, a charming wanted thief, and the duo set off on an action-packed escapade."

The film was released in 2010 and met with critical and commercial success. It made $592.5 million at the box office. The film also received several Oscar nominations, including for the Best Original Song. It also kick-started a franchise that includes a stage musical, a television series, and a short film.
