Taylor Russell departs from The Thomas Crown Affair
Deadline has recently reported that Taylor Russell has left The Thomas Crown Affair. It was due to her creative differences with the studio, as the latter is now looking to recast the role. Russell was cast as an insurance investigator who is suspicious of the protagonist, as she believes he is planning an elaborate heist. In the original 1968 and the 1999 film, this role was played by Faye Dunaway and Rene Russo, respectively.
Russell will be next appearing in the South Korean thriller titled Hope. Besides that, she is expected to star in the Single White Female remake.
The Thomas Crown Affair is a reboot of 1968's film by Norman Jewison. It is written by Drew Pearce while Michael B. Jordan, Charles Roven, Patrick McCormick, and Marc Toberoff are producing it. Their production banners include Outlier Society, Atlas Entertainment, and Toberoff Productions.
The earlier drafts were penned by Justin Britt-Gibson and Wes Tooke. Alan Trustman, who was involved in the original film, is the executive producer.
Jordan is also starring as the protagonist, Thomas Crown, a billionaire who plans art heists. Other cast members that have been announced so far are Lily Gladstone, Kenneth Branagh, Danai Gurira, Pilou Asbæk, and Aiysha Hart.
The film is the second directorial venture of Jordan after Creed III. Jordan is currently basking in the critical and commercial success of his recent release, Sinners. The period action horror film was directed by his long-time collaborator Ryan Coogler. The film went on to gross $365.9 million at the box office. They have worked together on films like Fruitvale Station, Creed, Creed II, Black Panther, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
