Teddi Mellencamp has parted ways with boyfriend Ricci Rea even as she continues her fight with cancer. The news was confirmed by Teddi herself in the latest episode of her Diamonds in the Rough podcast, and comes just a month after the news of their romance became public.
In the podcast, Teddi was quoted as saying:
"You guys, [the] press needs to get on it a little bit faster because by the time they figured out who my mystery man was, we’re already done. I had to call things off. All of a sudden, I open up the freaking worldwide web. I’m like, ‘The mystery man.’ Oh, now you guys figured it out."
She then went on to elaborate on the reasons for her split with Ricci Rea:
"Right now, it started getting to the point where it’s starting to get a little bit more serious. I was like, ‘I don’t have the capacity for this right now. He’s a really nice guy, couldn’t be a nicer guy. I don’t feel my best. So, when I have downtime, I want to rest. It’s not even, like, about a need right now, and I think that’s the crazy thing about this. Who knows? Three months from now, something else may be happening. I don’t know. But in the way I’m feeling right this moment, the second I’m done working with my kids and doing all the stuff that I need to do, I want to lay.
Teddi Mellencamp and Ricci Rea were first spotted with each other on a cozy stroll on May 31, and the news of their budding romance was shared by Teddi Mellencamp herself, just days later. Although she was careful not to reveal the identity of the said individual, even as she admitted to being impressed by him, the man was later identified to be Ricci Rae. As per Page Six, Rea is a senior producer at Dorothy, which is a boutique creative agency.
The news of the couple's split has taken the online community by surprise. Teddi has not closed the door to the possibility of future relationships.
Teddi Mellencamp's health updates
During her journey, Mellencamp has been supported by her relatives and friends, including her estranged husband Edwin Arroyave, who has been supporting her in her fight with cancer. According to Extra, since the diagnosis, the couple has decided not to go through with the divorce proceedings at this point.
In an interview with Extra at the recently held Gracie Awards, Teddi Mellencamp also brought fans up to date about her health.
"I’m feeling pretty good. I’m on day five post-immunotherapy, so those are always the days that I'm little blurry — but I’m hanging in. I realize that in order for me to feel better, I have to go out and do things that I love and enjoy and believe in."
She then went on to add:
"I just found out that I have to be doing immunotherapy for the next two years, but that my tumors are shrinking, so that’s incredibly good news. The dosage will switch, so I’m excited for that change because right now, it’s been every three weeks and it’s, you know, heavy dosage, so being able to rotate was a big celebration for me that I’m not gonna have days where I’m feeling kind of like I’m feeling today."
The fact that Teddi Mellencamp has been candid about her ill health has resonated with plenty of fans, and the fact that she is progressing on the way to better health also acts as a silver lining for those who might be facing the same issues.
