Terry Moran was recently terminated from ABC News, after 28 years at the network, for his comments on the Trump administration. Mere hours after an ABC News spokesperson confirmed the journalist had been terminated, Moran went on X to announce that he was moving to Substack. He said,

"For almost 28 years, I was a reporter and anchor for ABC News. And as you may have heard, I'm not there anymore. I'm here with you on Substack, this amazing space, and I can't wait to get at it. To get at the important work that we all have to do in this time of such trouble for our country."

While Terry Moran seemed genuinely upbeat, he noted that he has "to get some stuff sorted out" before his Substack gets fully off the ground.

Why Terry Moran lost his job

Terry Moran lost his job reportedly because of his X post regarding President Donald Trump. In a since-deleted X post, Moran had posited,

"Trump is a world-class hater. But his hatred is only a means to an end, and that end his his own glorification [sic]. That's his spiritual nourishment.”

According to an official statement shared to People, ABC News released the long-tenured broadcaster following the news of his social media post. The release stated,

“We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent post — which was a clear violation of ABC News policies, we have made the decision to not renew.”

The ABC News statement regarding Terry Moran continued,

“(ABC News) stands for objectivity and impartiality in its news coverage and does not condone subjective personal attacks on others. The post does not reflect the views of ABC News and violated our standards.”

This is not the first bitter interaction involving Terry Moran and President Trump. Only a month prior to his firing, Moran was given the rare opportunity for a one-on-one interview with the president in the Oval Office for a special broadcast marking Trump’s first 100 days in office on his second term in power. Terry Moran pointed out Trump’s erroneous assessment of an image as untouched, leading to the President making a personal attack on his interviewer.

“I picked you because, frankly, I had never heard of you, but that’s okay. But I picked you, Terry, but you’re not being very nice. He had 'MS-13' tattooed. Terry. Terry. Do you want me to show you the picture?”

Its unclear how or if Terry Moran's views regarding the current administration will be communicated moving forward.
