Tina Knowles is most recognized for being the outspoken mother of Beyoncé as well as an accomplished businesswoman. At 71, she is delving deeply into the experience of working with her oldest daughter on their joint haircare brand, Cécred. On Meghan Markle's podcast, Confessions of a Female, she spoke about the complexities of juggling parenthood and business.

She said:

"That’s a big part of it for me."

While there are benefits to working with family, Tina Knowles was open about the unavoidable difficulties. She said,

“There are difficulties sometimes because when you’re dealing with your child, or they’re dealing with their mother, you have disagreements.”

Tina Knowles acknowledged that in order to maintain the emotional connection during arguments, she frequently backs off. Talking about it, she said,

“I’m the one to always cave. I’ve been like that since I was young. If my kids are mad at me, I can’t take it, so I’ll apologize."

She continued:

"Even as adults, if we have disagreements or whatever, I’m the one to call because I don’t want to waste that time, and I don’t ever want to not be close to my kids. It’s just my priority.”

Tina Knowles admitted that she eventually yields to Beyoncé when it comes to business matters.

“We have disagreements about things, but it’s her business. I’m helping with the business because I just wanna leave this earth knowing that she, other than entertainment, is going to be OK. That’s a big part of it for me.”

Tina added:

“But overall, we get along really, really well. It’s her business, so she gets to win.”

A Shared Dream of Tina Knowles and Beyonće, Cécred: Years in the Making

Cécred was launched in 2024 and has gained popularity for its revitalizing hair drops. It has become a major player in the haircare sector. However, Tina asserted that the concept was not novel. She stated:

“It’s been a dream of mine forever. And Beyoncé, it’s been a dream of hers, so we’ve talked about this for years and years and years.”

She revealed that Beyoncé wasn't always on board, though.

“She was just not interested in pursuing another business because in her younger years, she completely focused on her singing and her skills.”

Eventually, Tina Knowles' resolve and pledge of cooperation were what persuaded her daughter. Revealing all this on a bonus episode of Meghan Markle's podcast, Confessions of a Female, on 2 June, 2025. She said,

“It took some convincing. I said, ‘I will work on it and we’ll work on it together.’ And so finally, she said, ‘OK, we can start on it.’ I didn’t want to start it by myself. I feel like, at this point in my life, being 70 years old, I didn’t want to work that hard.”

The foundation of Tina and Beyoncé's Cécred is built on trust. Speaking to Meghan, she said,

“I trust her. She’s such a savvy businesswoman. She knows so much about hair. We trust each other.”

Tina also recounted an instance in which she proposed the concept of constructing a test lab and salon in a small area, which others said was unrealistic.

“And sometimes I’ll say, ‘I wanna build this office and I wanna have a test salon in the back and I wanna have a laboratory in there.’ And everyone else was like, ‘You can’t do that in that amount of space.’ She’ll say, ‘I know you know what you’re doing.’”

She continued:

“In a roomful of people that were advisors, they were like, ‘I don’t think that’s a good idea.’ And she was like, ‘My mom knows what she’s doing.’ So she trusts me on things, and I trust her.”
