As Reeves continues to work on the project, he has confirmed a major addition to the creative lineup: Emmy-winning production designer Luke Hall who has previously worked on Andor. Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II is quietly building momentum as one of the most anticipated superhero sequels of the decade. Robert Pattinson returns as Gotham’s grim and obsessive vigilante, once again under the steady direction and pen of Reeves, who’s determined to push his grounded, noir-inspired vision of the Dark Knight even further. Though the film was originally expected to be released in October 2025, production delays caused by Hollywood’s dual strikes pushed its release to October 2, 2026.

Previously, James Gunn has defended Reeves' delay in working on the sequel's script, as he told The Hollywood Reporter. Speaking to the outlet, the director said,

“To be fair, a 5-year gap or more is fairly common in sequels. 7 years between Alien and Aliens. 14 years between Incredibles. 7 years between the first two Terminators. 13 years between Avatars. 36 years between Top Guns. And, of course, 6 years between Guardians Vol 2 and Vol 3.

He then continued to ask fans to give Reeves the time he needs to work on the script as he added,

“People should get off Matt’s nuts because it’s like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That’s just the way it is. He doesn’t owe you something because you like his movie. I mean, you like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does.”

So far, only Pattinson and Andy Serkis’ Alfred are confirmed to return, though whispers suggest other familiar faces could join them. Fans are hoping Zoë Kravitz’s Selina Kyle will reappear, but her involvement hasn’t been confirmed. Meanwhile, Barry Keoghan’s Joker, who briefly appeared in a scene from the first film, is rumored to step further into Gotham’s shadows this time. Reeves, however, is keeping his cards close, refusing to reveal if the clown prince will officially enter the story.

The Batman Part II will be in theaters in 2027. Further details are awaited for now.
