The Batman Part II is the forthcoming superhero film and a sequel to 2022’s The Batman. It is directed by Matt Reeves (also the director of the first film), who has also co-written the screenplay with Mattson Tomlin. The film is slated to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures theatrically on October 1, 2027.

Recently, it’s been reported that Scarlett Johansson is in the final stage of talks to join the film’s cast. This news is bound to excite all fans of Johansson, as well as those waiting for the superhero sequel.

Scarlett Johansson to act in The Batman Part II

Scarlett Johansson is in final talks to star in the upcoming film The Batman Part II. The news comes nearly four years after her departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where she played Black Widow.

The film will have Robert Pattinson reprising his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Other names returning for the sequel include Jeffrey Wright (as Jim Gordon), Andy Serkis (Alfred Pennyworth), and Colin Farrell (Penguin).

The Batman Part II will focus on the Caped Crusader as he takes on another case following the events of the first film. Warner Bros. had announced the project back in April 2022 at CinemaCon. DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran stated in 2023 that the sequel would release in October 2025. But the date was later pushed to October 2, 2026, and then again to October 1, 2027.

The script was finished in June 2025, and shooting is expected to begin in April or May 2026 in multiple locations, including Glasgow and Liverpool. It will be shot by Erik Messerschmidt, while Luke Hull will work as production designer.

The first film was written by Reeves and Peter Craig, and it focused on the superhero trying to save the city from the Riddler. It also starred Paul Dano, Zoë Kravitz, and John Turturro. The film was released on March 4, 2022, and met with critical acclaim. It earned around $772.3 million at the box office and received three Academy Award nominations.

The film’s success also inspired an HBO spin-off series called The Penguin, where Colin Farrell reprised his role as the titular criminal. It’s the first Batman film series since Zack Snyder’s version.
