The Beekeeper 2 is currently in the works and promises to continue the story with Jason Statham reprising the lead role. The film serves as a follow-up to 2024’s action thriller The Beekeeper, directed by David Ayer. Statham originally portrayed Adam Clay, a former assassin who had turned to beekeeping.
Here's the official synopsis of the first one as per Letterboxd:
One man’s campaign for vengeance takes on national stakes after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as Beekeepers.
Besides Statham, several other actors are also returning for the sequel. Let's find out who they are.
Emmy Raver-Lampman and others will reprise their roles in The Beekeeper 2
Variety has reported that Emmy Raver-Lampman, Jemma Redgrave, and Bobby Naderi will reprise their roles in the forthcoming film The Beekeeper 2.
Emmy had played the role of FBI agent Verona Parker, who is the daughter of Eloise. Redgrave portrayed the role of Jessica Danforth, President of the United States, while Naderi played the role of Matt Wiley, who is an FBI agent. Earlier, it was announced that Jason Statham will be returning as Adam Clay.
Unlike the first film, The Beekeeper 2 will be helmed by Timo Tjahjanto while Wimmer will be writing the script. It will be produced by Statham, Wimmer, and Chris Long under their banners Punch Palace Productions and Longshot Productions.
The first film was directed by David Ayer, while Kurt Wimmer wrote the screenplay. It's produced by Ayer, Statham, Wimmer, Bill Block, and Chris Long. It was about a government assassin who has given up on his profession and now works as a beekeeper. He goes on a revenge quest after his innocent landlady becomes a victim of online phishing.
The film was released on January 12, 2024, by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer via Amazon MGM Studios. It received positive critical response; made on a budget of $40 million, it earned $162.6 million at the box office.
In an interview with Task and Purpose, Ayer spoke about having Statham in yet another action role.
"[Statham] moves, he knows the game. And he has an encyclopedic knowledge of every punch ever thrown in every movie ever. It’s wild. So I felt myself backpedalling sometimes. He’s challenging me to bring, not my A game but my A++ game. Between us we found a grammar, we found a language. There’s so much action in this movie, and how do you start and not blow the whole thing out in the first half of the movie and still have places to go. I’ve shot a lot of action, I think I learned more about action from this movie than anything else combined."
