Less than a week after it's release, The Conjuring: Last Rites has already achieved a major box office milestone for Warner Bros., giving the studio another heads up for the year after a slew of successful projects this year. The film collected $83 million in it's opening weekend, a series best for the franchise, and broke a record that was previously held by The Nun. Additionally, overseas earnings have crossed the 100 million mark already, garnering $104 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $187 million.
The Conjuring: Last Rites is now the biggest opening in the franchise, usurping The Nun, which opened at $53.8 million. It also gave Warner Bros. it's seventh consecutive movie release with a box office collection of more than $40 million, making it the first studio in history to achieve this. The film is preceded by Warner Bros.' previous chain of box office successes; A Minecraft Movie, Sinners, Final Destination Bloodlines, F1: The Movie, Superman and Weapons.
The records don't stop there. 2025 has been a fairly good year for horror as audiences were treated to multiple horror flicks this year. Among others, The Conjuring: Last Rites now has the biggest opening weekend for a horror movie this year, going above Final Destination: Bloodlines's $51.6 million earnings.
This certainly means good things for the series as the film marked the ending of the first phase of the franchise with Ed and Lorraine's ghosthunting adventures coming to an end. If anything, all the records are a testament to fans' love for the franchise and how much they have anticipated for more of Ed and Lorraine Warren.
More details about The Conjuring: Last Rites
The Conjuring: Last Rites closes the book on Ed and Lorraine Warren’s decades of battling the dark. Directed by Michael Chaves, with a screenplay by Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, the ninth entry in The Conjuring Universe is inspired by the infamous Smurl haunting. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return as the Warrens, joined by Mia Tomlinson as their daughter Judy and Ben Hardy as her fiancé, Tony.
The story begins in 1964 with Lorraine’s terrifying vision during childbirth, a moment that foreshadows the danger awaiting Judy. Two decades later, the Smurl family moves into a Pennsylvania home and unknowingly welcomes a cursed mirror that becomes the heart of their torment. What starts with whispers and shadows escalates into brutal assaults, bloodied visions, and possessions.
The Warrens step in then, not realizing the horror it awaits them and how the demon inside the house is calling for Judy. The two families fight against the evil together, performing the "last rites" to rid the house and their lives of the demon.
With a $55 million budget and $187 million at the box office, The Conjuring: Last Rites divided critics but gave fans a haunting farewell, equal parts family drama and supernatural spectacle.
The Conjuring: Last Rites is now in theaters.
