CNN has announced that a new documentary, The Heist: The Louvre’s Stolen Crown Jewels, will premiere this month, delving deeper into the audacious daylight robbery at the Louvre Museum's Galerie d'Apollon that has stunned Paris and global citizens. The incident led to the robbery of eight priceless pieces of France's Crown Jewels in under seven minutes, and has now become a matter of discussion on every platform.

The documentary offers an inside look at the heist, and will feature expert analysis from journalists, art-crime investigators, and museum insiders. The film's official logline reads,

“Blending frontline reporting, cinematic visuals, and the pulse of a global mystery unfolding in real time, ‘The Heist’ is a gripping, up-to-the-minute account of a crime that museum insiders saw coming for years, only to have their warnings ignored.”

The robbery took place on October 19, when four men, disguised as construction workers, pulled off one of the biggest heists in modern times, one that has now shaken up the country and citizens globally, raising important questions about the Louvre's safety as investigations continue.

The robbery happened at the Galerie d’Apollon, which is home to France’s priceless Crown Jewels, where the robbers stole nine historic pieces, including the tiaras, necklaces, and earrings of Queen Maria Amalia, Empress Marie-Louise, and Empress Eugénie.

In a statement, President Emmanuel Macron said,

"The theft committed at the Louvre is an attack on a heritage that we cherish because it is our history. We will recover the works, and the perpetrators will be brought to justice. Everything is being done, everywhere, to achieve this, under the leadership of the Paris prosecutor's office. The Louvre New Renaissance project, which we launched in January, provides for strengthened security. It will be the guarantor of the preservation and protection of what constitutes our memory and our culture."

The incident has sparked global outrage, revealing flaws in the museum's security. It is currently a topic of discussion among many, especially on social media, where it has made way for creators to dissect, discuss and debate the matter.

The Heist: The Louvre’s Stolen Crown Jewels will try to unpack the incident, giving rare insights into the heist and the people involved. As of now, an investigation is going on, but no one has been arrested yet.

The Heist: The Louvre’s Stolen Crown Jewels will be available to watch on CNN on October 28.
