"The intention feels manipulative, I'm sorry"—Tyler and Catelynn Baltierra on why they won't discuss Carly's adoption after Teen Mom season finale

Television personality Catelynn Baltierra, who gained popularity after starring in the 2009 reality TV show 16 and Pregnant, is going through a rough patch with her husband, Tyler Baltierra, as seen on the season finale episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, which was released on May 22, 2025. Catelynn Baltierra and Tyler were disappointed as they struggled with not being able to communicate with Brandon and Teresa, who are the adoptive parents of their biological daughter, Carly.

In the episode, Catelynn and Tyler came across Dr. Drew, who guided and counseled them during the production of 16 and Pregnant. While Catelynn Baltierra and Tyler were having issues getting in touch with Brandon and Teresa, who adopted Carly in 2009, it was Dr. Drew who decided to step in, hoping to restore the communication between both parties. Then he broke the amazing news to them about Carly, who has become an accomplished singer. He also informed them that she sings in church.

Catelynn and Tyler wanted to hear their daughter's singing in private and not in front of the camera. Catelynn, who has previously asked Brandon and Teresa to send a video of Carly singing, stated that the adoptive parents did not care enough to send it to them, but had happily sent it to Dr. Drew.

Carly's biological parents were surprised to see that Brandon and Teresa would share the video with Dr. Drew but not with them. Talking about how they felt about the situation, Tyler stated:

"The intention feels manipulative, I'm sorry."

Tyler further added:

"I regret placing my kid for adoption. We didn't know that we were going to get financially stable, we didn't know that we would get resources to work on our mental health and get better before we brought more kids in the world."

Catelynn Baltierra and Tyler think Carly's adoptive parents are trying to keep their daughter away from them

Brandon and Teresa adopted Tyler and Catelyn's daughter Carly in 2009, soon after her birth. While her biological parents hoped to be kept in the loop and stay in touch with their daughter, they were disappointed and quite frustrated when Carly's adoptive parents stopped communicating with them and providing important updates about their daughter.

After speaking with Brandon and Teresa, Dr. Drew informed Catelynn Baltierra and Tyler that Carly is "thriving," suggesting that she is in good shape and is completely fine. When Catelynn Baltierra claimed that Carly's adoptive parents are trying to keep their biological daughter away from them, Dr. Drew stated that he does not think that's their purpose. Tyler Baltierra said:

"We can't ever say we're not grateful for them raising her."

To which Dr. Drew replied:

"You can have both feelings."

Dr. Drew reassured Catelynn and Tyler that communication between them and Carly's adoptive parents will eventually get better with time.

Finally, Tyler explained that they were glad they could discuss this and get everything out as they won't be talking about Carly's adoption in the future. He stated,

"we won’t be mentioning our biological daughter or her parents anymore & that’s why we’re actually relieved that this episode is airing, so that way we can all just finally move forward."
