Sinclair Broadcast Group pulled a notably promoted Charlie Kirk tribute special minutes before it was scheduled to air on Friday. Instead, they opted to stick with regular ABC programming.

At 11:24 p.m. Eastern, Sinclair stations rolled out a rerun of Family Feud rather than replacing Jimmy Kimmel Live!. This last-minute switch has fueled an online discussion. One netizen reacted, saying:

"The moral cowardice is breathtaking."

The Charlie Kirk special was initially announced as a replacement for Kimmel's late-night slot. It was instead uploaded to YouTube by National News Desk. The company explained this in the following statement:

"Tonight, Sinclair will continue to air ABC network programming as scheduled in the late-night time period. The Charlie Kirk special will instead be available on The National News Desk’s YouTube channel."

Internet reactions to Sinclair moving the Charlie Kirk special online

Sinclair took to their official X (formerly Twitter) page to announce that,

"Tonight, Sinclair will continue to air ABC network programming as scheduled in the late-night time period. The Charlie Kirk special will instead be available on The National News Desk's YouTube channel, ensuring viewers can continue to enjoy ABC programming while also providing full access to the special online."

Netizens were notably quick to weigh in on the comment section of the X post as they voiced their opinions. Below are some of their remarks:

"You're pathetic... a tribute for Charlie got replaced with Family Feud on my local station. @WeAreSinclair bought up independent stations to dominate the narrative. And we have to settle for second rate programming, shocking.", opined an x user.
"What are you so afraid of? The entire country is watching. Did your sponsors threaten to back out?", asked another.
"At this point, @tpusa shouldn't even allow you to air anything with Charlie Kirk's name or their name in it. The mainstream media companies are disgusting. The left is just too far gone to recover", declared a third.

Others also chimed in:

"Well, that was super disappointing. I even had my friends and family looking for it so we could support your good decision to pull Kimmel. You just lost any favor you had with all of us. Shame on you.", commented a netizen.
"Thank you for acknowledging Charlie Kirk's greatness. We did not watch the half about political violence. We are taking a pass on any chance to hear a lecture on "both sides need to improve."", shared another.
"So very disappointed in your company. You had the opportunity to bring millions upon millions of viewers back to your station and companies. You did not stand with the 77 million Americans that voted for a better country and future.", added a third.

The Charlie Kirk special is a one-hour production about his life. It is available for streaming on YouTube.
