Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz to return for The Mummy 4It has recently been reported that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz will reunite for The Mummy 4. The film will be directed by Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin under the Radio Silence banner.Back in October 2022, Fraser was asked if he would return to the franchise for The Mummy 4. He had said at the time:“I don’t know how it would work but I’d be open to it, if someone came up with the right conceit.”He further speculated on why the 2017 Tom Cruise-starrer reboot failed at the box office.“It is hard to make that movie. The ingredient that we had going for our ‘Mummy,’ which I didn’t see in the new one, was fun. That was what was lacking in that incarnation. It was too much of a straight-ahead horror movie. ‘The Mummy’ should be a thrill ride, but not terrifying and scary.”Matt and Tyler have directed films such as Scream, Ready or Not, and Scream VI. Fraser played the role of treasure hunter Rick O'Connell in the 1999 film, which was a remake of the eponymous 1932 title. Directed by Stephen Sommers, the film also had Rachel Weisz playing Evelyn Carnahan. Upon its release, the title was a critical and commercial success and also inspired a spin-off.It was followed by The Mummy Returns, which was released in 2001. Fraser and Weisz reprised their respective roles. Although it received mixed reviews, the film proved to be a commercial success. A third installment titled The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor met with primarily negative reviews and became the lowest-grossing installment in the franchise. The Universal Monsters franchise underwent a reboot in 2017, with Tom Cruise playing the lead role. It turned out to be a critical and commercial failure, leading the studio to scrap any immediate future plans for the universe. Are you excited about The Mummy 4?
