Glen Powell is back for another thrilling adventure as the Anyone But You actor is all set to appear in How to Make a Killing, a black comedy by John Patton Ford. The trailer shows Powell’s conspiracy to claim a $28 billion fortune, teaming up with Margaret Qualley.

Powell's character Becket Redfellow says in the trailer,

“There were seven of them — seven rich pricks between myself and $28 billion. If I were to prune a few branches of the family tree …”

The official synopsis of How to Make a Killing also sets the tone for the thriller. After his mother dies, impoverished and alone, Becket decides he is finally going to claim the life she always insisted he deserved, even if it requires a bit of strategically placed evil. He launches a deadly plan to remove the seven Redfellow relatives blocking his path to an inheritance he believes is rightfully his. As each heir meets an oddly creative end, Becket grows more convinced that wealth might actually deliver happiness. the only complication is the life he is already living, with Ruth, the girlfriend who couldn’t care less about money, and Julia, the old flame whose attention he can’t ignore.

How to Make a Killing is shaping up to be one of the most thrilling upcoming films, because the setup is chaotic in the best way and the cast is absolutely stacked. It is a black comedy thriller written and directed by John Patton Ford, loosely drawing from the 1949 British film Kind Hearts and Coronets by Robert Hamer and John Dighton. Glen Powell steps in as Becket Redfellow, joined by Margaret Qualley, Jessica Henwick, Bill Camp, Zach Woods, Topher Grace, Ed Harris, Raff Law, Sean Cameron Michael, and Bianca Amato as Cassandra Redfellow.

Powell has previously teased How to Make a Killing in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, where he said,

“There’s going to be a new title that we will probably be debuting here in the next few weeks. But the movie is fantastic, and John Patton Ford is a great filmmaker. I can’t wait for people to see it.”

The script has had a very long road. Ford’s screenplay first appeared on the 2014 Black List under the name Rothchild, back when Jon S. Baird was lined up to direct and Shia LaBeouf and Mel Gibson were attached to star. Things shifted years later when the project kicked back to life in March 2023, this time with Ford taking the director’s chair himself.

How to Make a Killing is set to hit theatres in the United States on 20 February 2026, distributed by A24.
