The Rip first look images out
Netflix recently released the first look images of their upcoming action thriller flick The Rip. One of them features Matt Damon and Ben Affleck as Lieutenant Dane Dumars and Det. Sergeant JD Byrne, respectively. The two are with the Miami police. Other images showcase stills from the film, featuring other cast members.
Joe Carnahan, the film's writer and director, spoke to Netflix about it. He said:
"The film’s DNA includes everything from “Serpico, Prince of the City, and Michael Mann's Heat.”
The director has derived the title from the term rips which means the situation when the authorities seize illegal drugs, cash, or weapons.
Talking about having Damon and Affleck in the cast, Carnahan said:
“You talk about the meta of something. You’ve got these two guys who have both been world-famous for over 30 years with a wonderful sense of friendship and brotherhood … Those guys are just so gifted and lovely and talented and open.”
He added,
"Everybody’s going to draft off them. So you get Teyana Taylor and you get Steven Yeun and you get Catalina [Sandino Moreno] and you get Kyle Chandler and you get Scott Adkins and Sasha Calle who all just show up and give you this wonderful sense of reality and authenticity.”
The film focuses on two Miami cops who stumble upon millions of dollars hidden in a stash house. This leads to a situation where they cannot trust anyone.
Affleck and Damon are also producing the film with Dani Bernfeld and Luciana under the Artists Equity banner. The Rip also stars Steven Yeun, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Kyle Chandler, Scott Adkins, Néstor Carbonell and Lina Esco.
The Rip will drop on Netflix on January 16, 2026.
