The reality TV star and the Real Housewives of Orange County alum, Lydia McLaughlin, paid tribute to her brother Geoffrey Shyam Stirling, who was shot by a police officer during a traffic stop in April. While Lydia and her family mourn Geoffrey's uncertain death, the Newport Beach Police Department released body cam footage of the entire incident of April 17, 2025, the day Geoffrey was fatally shot, on May 7, 2025.

Following her brother's death, Lydia shared a statement with People Magazine that said:

"My family and I are devastated by the loss of my brother. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends, family, and the community. We kindly ask for privacy as we mourn."

The 44-year-old television reality star, Lydia's father, Scott Stirling, in an additional statement to People Magazine, regarding his late son, said:

"Geoffrey was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. He was a television producer, script writer, actor and model. He attended church every Sunday and supported multiple charities. We miss him already."

Lydia McLaughlin made her debut on the Real Housewives of Orange County in season 8 and again appeared on the show in season 12. The reality TV star, who shares a son, Stirling, with internet personality and the founder/editor-in-chief of Nobleman Magazine, Doug McLaughlin, took to Instagram to reveal that her brother Geoffrey, who was 45, had been laid to rest by his family earlier this week.

On May 5, 2025, Lydia shared a few photos of his brother along with a couple of videos in which Geoffrey's family could be seen releasing white doves at his funeral. The caption of the Instagram post read:

"Yesterday, we laid my brother to rest. Just six months ago, we stood in this same place, grieving the loss of my mom."

Lydia, in the post, also mentioned her late mother, Judy Stirling, who died due to breast cancer, on October 8, 2024. She further continued:

"My heart is broken, and the shock still hasn’t settled. But even in the sorrow, I cling to what I know is true: God is good. He is in control. I am not. My brother is now with my mom, and I hold onto the promise that one day, we’ll all be reunited. Until then, I will miss them every single day."

Let's take a closer look at the altercation between Geoffrey Stirling and the NBPD

As mentioned earlier, body cam footage of the April 17 altercation between Geoffrey and the police was released on May 7, 2025, by the Newport Beach Police Department on YouTube. According to the police officer in the video, Geoffrey was pulled over for running a red light.

Previously, an Instagram post shared by the Newport Beach Police Department on April 19, 2025, regarding the matter said:

"On April 17, 2025, at approximately 9:15 p.m. [local time], a Newport Beach Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop on a motorcycle on West Coast Highway between Superior Avenue and Hoag Hospital."

The NBPD continued and said:

"The rider, identified as Geoffrey Shyam Stirling, a 45-year-old resident of Laguna Niguel, was stopped for a traffic violation. Shortly after being stopped, Stirling became uncooperative and assaulted the officer."

The police added:

"During the ensuing violent altercation, Stirling managed to remove the department-issued taser from the officer’s duty belt and attempted to deploy it multiple times against the officer. At that point, an officer-involved shooting occurred. Additional officers responded to the scene and rendered medical aid to Stirling until personnel from the Newport Beach Fire Department arrived. Stirling was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased."

According to People Magazine, an independent investigation into the matter is ongoing with the California Department of Justice.
