The Social Network Part II is officially happening

Deadline has reported that Social Network Part II, a sequel to the 2010 film, is in the works. Aaron Sorkin, who wrote the first film, is set to direct the second installment for Sony Pictures. It will not be a direct sequel but a follow-up to the events shown in the first film. Sorkin is also producing the film with Peter Rice, Todd Black, and Stuart Besser.

The source has also claimed that the film will follow The Facebook Files, a series of articles published in October 2021 in The Wall Street Journal. Written by Jeff Horowitz, the articles provide the insider details of Facebook. The makers have yet to reveal any release date for the film.

Since Sorkin wrote the first film, he has honed his skills as a director as he went on to helm films like Molly's Game, Being Ricardos, and The Trial of the Chicago 7. It is unclear if the previous cast members will be reprising their roles or not.

The Social Network was produced by Scott Rudin, Dana Brunetti, Michael De Luca, and Ceán Chaffin. The film starred Jesse Eisenberg portraying Mark Zuckerberg, while Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake played Eduardo Saverin and Sean Parker, respectively. The film was a critical and commercial success, and also received several Golden Globe awards, including Best Director, Best Motion Picture, Best Original Score, and Best Screenplay.

Over the years, Sorkin had expressed his interest in doing a sequel to The Social Network. However, after the 2021 Capitol attack, Sorkin stated that Facebook might have played a part in the events.
