Emma Heming, Bruce Willis' wife, responded to critics' loud opinions about her marriage in an August 29 Instagram video. She addressed this following her discussion of Willis' frontotemporal dementia treatment in the ABC documentary, Emma & Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey.

In the documentary, Heming had revealed that her husband had been living in a separate home due to his FTD battle.

"“The truth is that the opinions are so loud and they’re so noisy. But if they don’t have the experience of this, they don’t get a say, and they definitely don’t get a vote.”

Speaking about the reactions to the documentary, Emma explained that sharing her caregiving experience was meant to raise awareness and foster understanding:

"I think they did a beautiful job with amplifying FTD awareness. What I knew was that by sharing some of our intimate information that we would see these two camps. It would be people with an opinions versus people with an actual experience. This is what caregivers are up against. Judgment from others and criticism from others."

"Sharing openly may invite opinions": says Bruce Willis wife Emma Heming about his FTD diagnosis

While talking about the decision to share her journey as a caregiver in the August 29 Instagram video, Emma Heming noted:

"Sharing openly may invite opinions, but most importantly, it creates connection and validation for those actually navigating the realities of caregiving every day."

And added:

"That's who I share for and so I can build a deeper connection with a community that understands this journey."

In the documentary, Emma says that Bruce was moved into a nearby home that is safe for both him and his 24-hour care team. Emma mentioned that she made this decision after learning that noise could aggravate Bruce's condition. The mom of two stopped hosting playdates and sleepovers when she began to wonder if parents would feel comfortable leaving their kids at their home.

Emma noted that the family moves between both homes regularly. She visits Bruce's house at least twice a day for meals, and their daughters keep some belongings there.

Bruce Willis and Emma Heming tied the knot in March 2009 and share two daughters, Mabel Ray, 13, and Evelyn Penn, 11. Emma went public with Bruce's aphasia diagnosis in 2022, and less than a year later, he was diagnosed with FTD.
