Following the cancellation news of Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show, actress Jamie Lee Curtis shared her thoughts about the decision. Speaking to the Associated Press on July 18, Curtis said the decision was unfortunate. She added:

“It’s bad. He’s a great, great guy. They just cut NPR and, you know, public broadcasting. Yes, they’re trying to silence people but that won’t work. It won’t work. We will just get louder.”

On July 18, Stephen Colbert announced that his show will be over in May 2026. He told his audience:

“Next year will be our last season. The network will be ending the Late Show in May.”

He went on:

“It’s not just the end of our show but it’s the end of the late show on CBS. I am not being replaced. This is all just going away and I do want to say that the folks at CBS have been great partners. I am so grateful to the Tiffany Network for giving me this chair and this beautiful theatre to call home.”

Stephen Colbert thanked his audience for watching his show every night, no matter where they were in the world. He also showed his gratitude to the band, the performers, and the 200 people who worked on the show.

He said it was an amazing job he had done for the past 10 years and joked that he wished someone else were taking it over. He added that he was excited to keep working with his team for another 10 months and promised it would be fun.
