After decades of speculation and whispered rumors, Gremlins 3 just got real, and it's thanks to Billy Peltzer himself. At Comic‑Con Manchester, original star Zach Galligan revealed a surprising milestone: a completed script is now on Steven Spielberg’s desk, just awaiting his approval.

Galligan said,

“After 35 years, they’ve come up with a script,”

He also added that Warner Bros. is “incredibly interested” in making the sequel official.

That final green light from Spielberg, or executive approval via his Amblin banner, is the only hurdle left before the mogwai mayhem returns to screens. Reportedly penned by Chris Columbus and Carl Ellsworth, the screenplay is described as “twisted and dark,” leaning into the original’s horror-comedy roots while packing modern teeth.

Galligan told the audience,

“After 35 years, they’ve come up with a script. Warner Bros. is incredibly interested in doing it, apparently it’s waiting on Mr. Spielberg to read it and approve it. But you can thank the success of ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.'”

This update spikes the nostalgia adrenaline: the film that introduced Gizmo, Stripe, and those infamous rules could finally be getting its long-promised finale. Possibly, if Spielberg signs. For loyal fans who’ve waited decades, that script sitting on his desk may finally mean the gremlins are coming home.

After 35 years of radio silence, spilled water, and midnight snacks, Gremlins 3 is finally crawling out of the shadows. Chris Columbus, who penned the original 1984 chaos-fest that gave us the adorable Gizmo and the nightmare-inducing Stripe, is back with a new screenplay.

According to past interviews, Columbus has crafted a story that’s apparently darker, smarter, and yes, still packed with puppets.

The director first talked about the script of Gremlins 3 in 2017, where he told SlashFilm,

“I’m really proud of the script. It is as twisted and dark as anything, so we’ll see. It’s always a budgetary conversation when we’re going to shoot it. I wanted to go back to the really twisted sensibility of the first movie. I found that was a very easy place for me to fall back into and start writing again so hopefully we’ll see that movie soon.”

He also added that Gremlins 3 will have minimal CGI, as he continued,

"Oh, without a doubt, minimal CGI. CGI will enable us to remove wires and make the puppeteers lives a little easier. It was brutal. It was like a marathon every night for those guys. In the bar scene alone there were 18 [or] 20 people behind the bar. No one had any space to move. It was just hellish for those guys so CGI will simplify that a little bit but it's all puppets."

More details on Gremlins 3 are awaited for now, but with the team's confirmation and positive indications, we might just be getting our Gremlins back soon.
