Dakota Johnson recently talked about her "magical" time filming the romantic comedy Materialists in an interview with Deadline, complimenting co-stars Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal for their warmth, humor, and camaraderie on set. The movie is directed by Celine Song and is set to release in cinemas on 13 June, 2025. Talking about working with them, she said:

"They’re both pretty funny dudes.”

Dakota Johnson talked openly about her experience on set with Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans in an interview with Deadline. She said:

“Chris and Pedro were wonderful. They’re both pretty funny dudes. They both really make me laugh. I really make Chris laugh, which I like a lot."

She continued:

"And Pedro and I were friends before, so just being able to hang out all day was really fun.”

The Fifty Shades of Grey actress went on to talk about the significance of such bonds:

“When you’re on set, you’re just like, ‘Oh, I’m in movie prison and I can’t do anything and I can’t see anybody and I live on set.’ So, it was just so fun to have a friend there. But they’re both, I think, really wonderful in this movie.”

Dakota Johnson's experience working with Celina Song on Materialists

The movie Materialists, directed by Past Lives filmmaker Celine Song, is a romantic comedy where Dakota Johnson plays the role of Lucy, a young, aspirational matchmaker in New York City who finds herself in a love triangle. Chris Evans plays Lucy's flawed ex-boyfriend John, who is working as a waiter waiting for his big break, while Pascal plays the role of Harry, who is a rich bachelor and apparently an ideal new match.

The story follows a contemporary take on the conventional rom-com format while navigating the emotional complexity of love, time, and identity.

Johnson showered director Celine Song with praise in the interview, describing the experience as "magical" and incredibly collaborative. She said:

“Oh, God, that was really a magical, magical, magical time. Talk about not combative at all. We were of one mind. It was so beautiful, really, really beautiful.”

Adding to how Song knew how to share the space with the artist:

"It almost felt like she was in the scenes with me."

Revealing that Song would frequently be in close proximity to the camera during filming, although out of frame to offer guidance and support in real time.

Johnson added that Celine Song was the “true real deal.”

Dakota Johnson's funny anecdote about Pedro Pascal asking her to try out OnlyFans:

In a different interview with Elle, Johnson had a lighthearted conversation with Pascal about their friendship and professional relationship that has lasted for ten years. Johnson had entirely forgotten their initial meeting at the 2014 Golden Globes until Pascal reminded her of it.

She remarked:

"That’s so crazy that I don’t remember meeting you there. It feels like something substantial happened to me that night and I’m blocking it out."

Talking about this, Pascal quipped that he felt betrayed when Dakota Johnson failed to notice him at the Met Gala. He taunted:

"You weren’t mean, but I was building the interaction of having already met you. And I had a moment of feeling a little stupid because it was like, ‘Oh, she doesn’t remember me.’"

Johnson acknowledged that she frequently finds the Met Gala to be weird:

"I find the Met Gala is like The Twilight Zone. I don’t know what the f*ck is going on. I don’t feel I connect with any human beings in a real way; it’s like going into some sort of vortex."

Dakota Johnson also revealed that Pascal previously advised her to create an account on OnlyFans in order to get money.

"Pedro Pascal told me that I should have an OnlyFans and that I could just like wiggle my toe and make money. Should I do that?"

She admitted to not knowing anything about OnlyFans:

"It sounds interesting. Sounds intriguing."

Dakota Johnson's movie, along with Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal, hits cinemas on June 13, 2025.
