Kill Bill: Vol. 1 is written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, and it was released on October 10, 2003, by Miramax Films. The martial arts action film is the first part of the Kill Bill franchise, starring Uma Thurman in the lead role as a Bride who seeks revenge on those who wronged her. Its official synopsis, as per Letterboxd, reads,

There is a scene where Daryl Hannah is whistling. It turns out that it was improvised.
Daryl Hannah improvised a whistling scene in Kill Bill: Vol. 1
In one scene in Kill Bill: Vol. 1, Elle Driver (who is one of the targets of Bride) is whistling inside the hospital where Bride is admitted. She plans to eliminate the protagonist as she is a former lover of Bill. The character, played by Daryl Hannah, can be seen whistling inside the hospital, wearing a nurse's dress. It turns out that moment was improvised by Hannah and was not a part of the script.
The whistle was based on the theme song of the 1968 film Twisted Nerve, and the director Quentin Tarantino was impressed by it and decided to keep it in the film.
Kill Bill: Vol. 1 is produced by Lawrence Bender, and it was heavily inspired by the 1970s martial arts as well as exploitation flicks. The yellow suit that Uma Thurman wore in fight sequences was a direct reference to Bruce Lee's Game of Death. It met with positive reviews and grossed $180.9 million. The film's cast members include,
- Uma Thurman as Beatrix Kiddo, aka the Bride
- Lucy Liu as O-Ren Ishii
- Vivica A. Fox as Vernita Green
- Daryl Hannah as Elle Driver
- Michael Madsen as Budd
- David Carradine as Bill
- Sonny Chiba as Hattori Hanzō
- Chiaki Kuriyama as Gogo Yubari
- Gordon Liu as Johnny Mo
In a 2003 interview with IGN, Hannah said that the character does not have any vulnerability.
"It's the first villain that I've played in a movie that has absolutely no vulnerability and no innocence, nothing whatsoever that is likable about her other than she's so bad."
A sequel titled Kill Bill: Vol. 2 was released in 2004. The makers are also planning to combine the two into one and release it in December 2025. It is called Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair.
