Ryan Reynolds is in talks to star in a Thunderbolt & Lightfoot remake

Deadline has reported that Ryan Reynolds is in talks to star in Thunderbolt & Lightfoot' remake. Not just that, he's also reportedly planning to produce the upcoming film under his banner of Maximum Effort. It will also mark the feature-length directorial debut of Shane Reid.

He served as an editor for Reynolds' previous film, Deadpool & Wolverine, which was a major commercial success last year. The script is currently being penned with the involvement of Reynolds, along with Scott Wilson and Enzo Mileti. The writing duo has worked on projects like Fargo Season Four and The Kingdom.

Reynolds' Maximum Effort banner has produced titles like Deadpool & Wolverine, John Candy: I Like Me, and Shotgun Wedding. He will be next seen in Animal Friends and Eloise (both of which are also produced by him).

Meanwhile, the original Thunderbolt & Lightfoot was written and directed by Michael Cimino, while Robert Dailey produced it. The film starred actors like Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges, along with George Kennedy. Eastwood played a preacher who is saved by a car thief, and the two form a bond. Together, they go on a robbery spree while Thunderbolts' previous gang is looking for him.

The film was made with a $2.2 million budget and ended up making around $25 million at the box office. Bridges received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Fans who enjoyed the original film would be elated to know that this story is finally getting a modern spin. Even those who haven't watched the 1974 title will be surprised to see this story getting a new take for an entirely new generation of moviegoers.
