Netflix has made a fresh $265M investment in Wales, with Tom Hardy's forthcoming film Havoc being a significant part of it.
The film was shot in Wales, and it is regarded as the most grand-scale motion picture that has been made in the region. In reports, it was revealed that Netflix has been making an ample amount of investments in the region of Wales since the last 5 years, which has helped the UK economy.
Tom Hardy's Havoc was filmed in Wales
As per reports handed out by Netflix and Creative Wales, it was revealed that Netflix heavily invested in Tom Hardy's upcoming release, Havoc.
Ever since the year 2020, Netflix has been investing in 500 different corporations in Wales, UK, up to a whopping $265 million. The investment has proved to be extremely lucrative to the UK economy. Here is a minor breakdown of its profits:
- Per 1 pound, which is $1.32, a fraction of it goes to the film and TV industry, around 58 pence, which is 76 cents.
- The rest of the money directs to other sectors such as creative arts, food and hospitality, etc.
- In the creative arts, it is 5 pence, that is, $6.64
- For food and hospitality sector, it takes around 3 pence, that is, $3.98
- For rental and leasing, 7 pence is invested, that is, $9.30
- The remaining 27 pence ($35.85) is divided across other industries.
As per reports in Variety, when the renowned series Sex Education was shot in the Welsh region, it provided employment in the region. Also, Netflix is focusing more on stories centered on the Welsh community, as evidenced by the 2023 show Dal Y Mellt.
Jack Sargeant, the Cultural Minister of Wales, mentioned:
“We are immensely proud of our Welsh creative industries, which employ over 35,000 talented individuals, and the world-class infrastructure we have in place for film and TV productions.”
In addition to this, Netflix has also launched a programme to support local artists that enables them to reach out to more people, ‘IGNITE Your Creativity’, in collaboration with National Youth Theatre.
Anna Malet, who is the Netflix Vice President of Production Management, UK, has spoken about Netflix's association with Wales, by mentioning:
“From ‘Sex Education’ to ‘The Crown,’ and now to ‘Havoc,’ some of our most beloved titles were filmed or produced in Wales,”
“Blessed with incredible creative talent and beautiful natural landscapes, Wales is an amazing place to make entertainment.”
Tom Hardy's forthcoming film Havoc follows the plot of an investigator who uncovers various truths about the vicious, highly nefarious system in the quest to save a politician's son.
It is releasing on Netflix on 25th April 2025.
