Tom Holland's next project, The Odyssey, sees him collaborating with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, and the actor is opening up about feeling overwhelmed about sharing the screen with stars like Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway.

Speaking to GQ Sports, the actor talked about how Damon and Anne are his heroes, as he said:

“Matt has always been a hero of mine. Anne has always been a hero of mine. So to share scenes with them, to learn from them, to become friends with them, I couldn’t have asked for a better job. And I’m so proud of the work I’ve done. I came to work every day with a real sense of purpose and a point to prove, and I’m so grateful for Chris to have given me that opportunity."

Holland had first opened up about his role in The Odyssey in 2024, as he told Good Morning America about his feelings when he got the call from Nolan. Comparing it to getting the role of Spiderman years ago, the actor said:

“When the opportunity came in, it was the phone call of a lifetime. It was reminiscent of getting the call about Spider-Man 10 years ago. It’s an amazing thing for me. I’m super proud and I’m really, really excited.”

Holland stars as Telemachus in the film, which is being helmed by Christopher Nolan, and Matt Damon is playing the role of Odysseus, his father, and if rumors are true, then Hathaway is stepping in as Penelope, his mother.

More details about The Odyssey

It’s been almost 2 years since Christopher Nolan shook the world with Oppenheimer, and now he’s setting his sights on another grand adventure: The Odyssey, an epic adaptation of Homer’s timeless tale. Premiering July 17, 2026, this film marks a shift from grounded history to full-bore mythic storytelling complete with gods, monsters, and jaw-dropping action all shot entirely on new IMAX film cameras.

The narrative follows Matt Damon as Odysseus, the war-weary King of Ithaca, on his decade-long, perilous journey home after the Trojan War. He’ll face legendary trials, Cyclops, Sirens, Circe, storms, and divine meddling while his wife Penelope and son Telemachus hold down the fort back in Ithaca.

Nolan seems determined to bring epic realism to even the most fantastical scenes, with practical sets and on-location shoots across Morocco, Greece, Sicily, the UK, and Iceland.

Speaking of the cast, it's a star-studded ensemble. Joining Damon are Nolan regulars like Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Elliot Page, alongside high-profile new collaborators Tom Holland as Telemachus, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron as Circe, Jon Bernthal, Elliott Page, Bill Irwin, and Benny Safdie.

Production kicked off in early 2025 under Emma Thomas’s Syncopy banner and Universal Pictures. With a reported $250 million budget, exotic locales, and IMAX-grade visuals, this promises to be Nolan’s most ambitious gamble yet.

More details on The Odyssey are awaited for now.
