Toy Story 5 teaser teases the end of ‘the age of toys’ as a high-tech tablet enters the picture

Toy Story 5 is the upcoming film that will take the universe of talking toys forward. The animated comedy flick is the fifth entry in the franchise, and it's written and directed by Andrew Stanton. Walt Disney Studios will be releasing it on June 19, 2026. Here's the official synopsis as per Letterboxd:

Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs get exponentially harder when they go head to head with an all-new threat to playtime: tech.

Recently, the makers released their first teaser trailer on the internet, and it showcases the toys realizing that kids are switching to tech for entertainment.

Toy Story 5 teaser trailer is out

The Toy Story 5 teaser trailer was released on November 12, 2025. This 49-second-long video starts with a shot of a delivery package. Bonnie's mother says that the package is for her. We see all the toys are excited and nervous to see what's inside it. Turns out, it's a frog-like tablet named Lilypad. The pad introduces itself and says, "let's play." The video's tagline reads: 'In Summer 2026, the age of the toys is over?'

The film is produced by Jessica Choi and Lindsey Collins for Pixar Animation Studios. Andrew Stanton and his co-director, McKenna Harris, issued a statement about the film, which read:

“It’s been a hilarious and poignant journey exploring how our favorite team of legacy toys might respond to today’s world of technology, and we’re thrilled to share this first glimpse with audiences."

Toy Story 5 marks the return of Tom Hanks voicing Woody, while Tim Allen is also back as Buzz Lightyear. Other voice actors include Joan Cusack (Jessie), Blake Clark (Slinky Dog), Ernie Hudson (Combat Carl), Tony Hale (Forky), Anna Faris, Conan O'Brien as Smarty Pants, and Greta Lee as Lilypad.

The film was announced in 2023, and it's the first one in the franchise to be made without the involvement of John Lasseter. He stepped down from Pixar after multiple women accused him of s*xual misconduct.

Carl Weathers, who voiced Combat Carl, passed away. The character will be voiced by Ernie Hudson in this film. Talk show host Conan O'Brien is voicing a tech assistant character in the film. The franchise began in 1995 with the first film becoming a critical and commercial success and receiving multiple Oscar nominations. It was followed by three more installments.

Toy Story 5 will release on June 19, 2026.
