Lady Gaga has never been one to shy away from making a statement on the biggest stage. She has always used her platform to give voice to the causes that are most meaningful and dear to her heart, and this past Sunday at the Grammys was no different. There, on music’s most highly regarded international stage, she delivered a heartfelt message in support of the trans community while accepting the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance award alongside Bruno Mars for their joint hit “Die With a Smile.”

Gaga shared her thoughts freely concerning the current landscape and the lack of representation and gainful opportunity for the Trans community.

"Trans people are not invisible. Trans people deserve love, the queer community deserves to be lifted up. Music is love. Thank you."

The “Shallow” performer and longtime LGBTQ advocate’s words carried even more weight in light of the latest changes to certain American policies. Last week, newly minted President-Elect Donald Trump signed an executive order to restrict access to gender-affirming care for transgender children and teenagers under the age of 19. He subsequently went on to sign another executive order barring the Trans community from serving openly in the military.

Keen observers will note that Gaga famously made a wildly provocative statement at the 2010 VMAs in defense of animal rights. Her final outfit for the night on which she was nominated for 13 awards was a dress, hat, boots, and purse made of raw meat. She later explained her interpretation of the dress in an interview with the now-embattled Ellen DeGeneres, stating,

"If we don't stand up for what we believe in and if we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones."

Chappell Roan Also Chimes In

Before Gaga’s comments, Chappell Roan also shared a poignant message about the Trans community before the event even kicked off. Roan, an openly queer artist herself and staunch advocate for the LGBTQ community, opened up on the matter while walking the red carpet.

“It’s brutal right now, but trans people have always existed, and they will forever exist. No matter what happens, their joy cannot be taken away.”

She has often credited the queer community as a major inspiration for her work and walked away from this year’s awards with a win for Best New Artist. This, of course, was for the debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.

Mayhem

Apart from delivering her powerful message on gender equality at this year’s Grammys, Gaga also continued with the rollout of Mayhem, her upcoming studio album. At the show’s 67th Annual event, Lady Gaga debuted “Abracadabra,” a previously unreleased track from her new LP. This bombshell came by way of a totally unexpected performance that aired during a commercial break. 2025 is a massive year for Gaga as she is also slated to headline Coachella in the spring.
