Vin Diesel is burying the hatchet in his long-rumored beef with Dwayne Johnson. The Fast and Furious actor lauded his former co-star for his performance in his new movie, The Smashing Machine. Diesel, 58, shared a photo of himself and The Rock on Instagram on Tuesday, November 28. In the caption, Vin Diesel gushed over the latter's performance as UFC legend Mark Kerr, sharing that he and Kerr, 56, are friends in real life. "One of the greatest gifts in life isn’t something you can buy, it’s the relationships forged along the way," Diesel wrote in his post. "I wanted to take a moment to talk about The Smashing Machine." Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel's jibes at each other over the years explored: View this post on Instagram Instagram PostIn his post on Instagram, Vin Diesel shared that he and the MMA fighter Kerr struck up a friendship years ago, when the former shifted to California. The actor regarded him as "genuinely one of the kindest, most warm-hearted people you will ever meet." As for Dwayne Johnson, he said: "And let me celebrate Dwayne. People don’t understand what it takes to uphold a global perception every single day. I remember asking our global family who they’d love to see me work with, and a woman named Jan left a comment saying her dream was for me to collaborate with Dwayne." The pair notoriously feuded between 2016 and 2023, People Magazine has reported, over creative differences concerning the Fast & Furious franchise. As reported by Us Weekly, in 2016, Johnson took to Instagram in a now-deleted post to slam some of his co-stars. "Some [male costars] conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don't," Johnson wrote at the time. "The ones that don't are too chicken s—t to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I'm not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling — you're right." In another post, he wrote: “Family is gonna have differences of opinion and fundamental core beliefs,” he wrote. “To me, conflict can be a good thing, when it’s followed by great resolution. I was raised on healthy conflict and welcome it. And like any family, we get better from it.” While he didn't mention anyone by name, rumors quickly emerged that he was referring to Vin Diesel. A few days later, after The Fate of the Furious wrapped filming, Johnson shared another post thanking some of his castmates, though he famously left Diesel out. Ahead of the movie's release, Vin Diesel told USA Today that he and Johnson were friends, and that the whole situation was blown out of proportion. "I don’t think the world really realizes how close we are, in a weird way," he explained. "I think some things may be blown out of proportion. I don't think that was his intention. I know he appreciates how much I work this franchise. In my house, he’s Uncle Dwayne." He continued, "I protect the franchise. I protect everybody including Dwayne. I protected Dwayne more than he’ll ever know. And it doesn’t matter. He doesn’t have to know. But he appreciates it. He knows it. Dwayne has only got one Vin in his life. Dwayne Johnson only has one big brother in this film world and that’s me."In April 2017, Vin Diesel told Entertainment Tonight: “We still love each other, that's my boy. When I was making that difficult decision, should there be an 8 or not, I called [Johnson] and he said, ‘Brother, I will be there shoulder to shoulder with you to make sure it's the best movie in history.’ And he delivered." In October 2021, Johnson told Vanity Fair that, in retrospect, his initial post that kick-started his feud with Vin Diesel came on a bad day. "I shouldn’t have shared that," he added. "Because at the end of the day, that goes against my DNA. I don’t share things like that. And I take care of that kind of bulls—t away from the public. They don’t need to know that. That’s why I say it wasn’t my best day.” He said that he regretted his actions, though he asserted that he wouldn't take the message he intended back: "I mean what I say when I say it," he shared. "But to express it publicly was not the right thing to do.” Stay tuned to SoapCentral for more.
