Viva La Madness is the upcoming film by Guy Ritchie, who also co-wrote it with J.J. Connolly. The action crime thriller will mark Ritchie's reunion with Jason Statham. The two have previously worked together on films like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, and Operation Fortune, among others. Black Bear will handle the film's international sales and also serve as a producer.

Let us explore all the details about this film, which has reportedly generated a lot of buzz among cinephiles.

Guy Ritchie to reunite with Jason Statham for Viva La Madness

The action thriller Viva La Madness is an adaptation of J.J. Connolly's 2011 novel of the same name, a sequel to Layer Cake. Despite a Connolly connection, the film is billed as a stand-alone.

The film is produced by Statham, Ritchie, Ivan Atkinson, Thomas Benski, and John Friedberg under the banners of Lumina Studios, Punch Palace Productions, and Toff Guy Films. Black Bear is also involved with the film's international distribution as it opens up to the Hollywood film world. They are also one of the producers of Viva La Madness.

The book is about a London-based drug dealer called X who maintains a low profile. We can expect Statham to star as the protagonist, as he is the only actor attached to the project.

Ritchie started his directing journey with the 1998 film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, which also starred Statham. He then went on to direct titles like Snatch, Swept Away, RocknRolla, and Sherlock Holmes. In 2025, he came up with the heist-action-adventure film Fountain of Youth.

Besides Viva La Madness, Ritchie has two films in his lineup, including the action thriller In The Grey and the black comedy Wife & Dog. Meanwhile, Statham has continued to project his action-star image in recent years with films like The Beekeeper and A Working Man. He will be next seen in The Beekeeper 2, Mutiny, and Shelter; he is also co-producing these titles. Both Ritchie and Statham last worked on the spy-action comedy Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, released in 2023 and met with mixed critical response.
