Superman is going to kickstart the DC Universe set up by James Gunn and Peter Safran. The forthcoming superhero film, written and helmed by Gunn, will be released on July 11, 2025.

Here's the official synopsis:

"Superman must reconcile his alien Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as reporter Clark Kent. As the embodiment of truth, justice and the human way he soon finds himself in a world that views these as old-fashioned."

As per a report by ScreenRant, a lawsuit has been filed by the estate of the superhero creator to stop its release in certain countries ahead of its theatrical release.

According to a report in ScreenRant, Superman is facing yet another lawsuit from the estate of the superhero's co-creator. After an earlier lawsuit, which was quashed in April, Warner Bros. Pictures is facing another one. As per Eriq Gardner, Marc Toberoff (who is an attorney) has refiled the case in the state court of New York. He is representing Joe Shuster, who co-created the superhero character.

They are also trying to halt the film's release in countries like Australia, Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. It's mainly because the estate is fighting with the copyright laws of these countries regarding ownership.

The estate wants to prevent the studio from "exploiting Superman" and the Supreme Court has ordered them to submit papers that would oppose the estate's reasons. It has to be submitted before the court on June 4. The studio will have to reason as to why the injunction on the release should not be imposed.

Gardner stated that the lawsuit "theoretically jeopardizing the global rollout" of the film. If the lawsuit halts the film's release in the above-mentioned countries, its box office numbers will take a major hit. In April, a lawsuit was dismissed by the court, where the estate mentioned that Warner Bros. does not have the rights to release it in certain territories.

The film is produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran, and is a reboot of the series and the first in the DC Universe. Here's the list of its cast members:

  • David Corenswet as Clark Kent aka Superman
  • Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane
  • Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor
  • Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt aka Mister Terrific
  • Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason aka Metamorpho
  • Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner aka Green Lantern
  • Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl

As of yet, Warner Bros. Discovery has not commented, and the film is scheduled to be released on July 11, 2025.
