Kevin Sorbo, best known for his role as Hercules in the popular television series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, claims that his conservative views and vocal Christian faith led to his being pushed out of Hollywood.
The 64-year-old actor claimed in an August 2023 interview with Fox News Digital that he was blacklisted due to his opinions, which the entertainment industry deemed unacceptable.
Kevin Sorbo gained worldwide recognition after starring in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, which aired from 1995 to 1999. It was one of the most-watched syndicated television shows back then. Because of its popularity, it gave birth to shows like Xena: Warrior Princess, which starred Lucy Lawless. Kevin Sorbo was also very close to suiting up as Clark Kent, aka Superman, in Lois & Clark before he bagged the role of Hercules.
Sorbo, back then, had declined a three-year extension for the role of Hercules, which altered his career completely. As Sorbo's public political and religious stances went public, his roles also decreased, even though he appeared in shows like Andromeda, The O.C., Hawaii Five-O, and Supergirl.
In a recent interview with Fox News, Kevin Sorbo said:
"Well, I'm the first cancel culture victim before I knew it was a term. Hollywood booted me up a dozen years ago for things I was posting on the internet. And I looked at my age and I said, 'Oh, you guys are upset that I'm posting the truth? Is that a problem with you guys?'"
He added:
"'Because they hate the truth, and they hate anybody who's a Christian in Hollywood, anybody who is a conservative. So I'm like a double leper to them. I'm, like, kryptonite or something."
The actor suffered a lot back then; even his manager and agent found it hard to get him roles, to the extent that they also left him.
After his claims of being ousted from the movie industry, he also claimed that he was banned from social media, which included the likes of LinkedIn and Facebook. Kevin Sorbo said in an interview:
“Even LinkedIn took me down. They don’t like the truth. I say on Twitter [now X], I said, ‘I need more conspiracy theories because all of mine came true.’ But did Facebook apologize for taking me down even though I was right? No, because they don’t like the truth. The truth is too difficult for some people to take.”
The actor also revealed that upon being dropped from Hollywood, he and his wife opened up Sorbo Studios and have been making at least four movies a year. Their movies focus on traditional values and honor stories that demonstrate honesty, kindness, and love.
Their movie list includes Miracle in East Texas (2019), Let There Be Light (2017), and The Reliant (2019).
Kevin Sorbo Claims Hollywood Is “Shifting” Under Trump, Says Studios Are Reaching Out With Offers
Kevin Sorbo added on Donald Trump being in office again and how it changes things:
"'So, I'm OK with it. I mean, I hate it, but I think there's a shift. I think with Trump in office again right now, there's definitely a shift. People will hate him in front, but those people that hate him, they're gonna see their lives get better. Trust me."
He continued:
"And Hollywood is shifting a little bit because I'm starting to get calls from the studios saying, 'Hey, there's a big thing with this stuff. So maybe send us a couple of scripts.'"
He concluded:
"So, I'm reaching out to Netflix and Amazon with a couple of scripts that I have that aren't in your face about faith, but the messages are there. There's a positive message instead of negative ones, so I think we've reached a tipping point."
