While speaking to Vogue for a cover story alongside Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid revealed that she auditioned for the role of Rapunzel in the live-action remake of Tangled but didn't get the part. Hadid took singing lessons during fashion month to prep for her audition.
"What do we do in this job anymore that scares us? I was really proud of my scene. The singing...I knew they were going to go with a real singer, but I'll show you my audition scene later."
To which Jenner replied:
"I'm stoked. I need to see."
In December 2024, news broke that Disney was developing a live-action remake of Tangled with filmmaker Michael Gracey in talks to direct the Jennifer Kaytin Robinson-written script. Casting for the film was never announced, and in April, it was reported that the movie was on indefinite hold after live-action Snow White collapsed at the box office.
When news of Gigi Hadid's audition made its way to X, social media users took to the comments section of Pop Base's account to express their reactions. Users imagined Hadid in the role of Rapunzel. One user (@americanreqiuem) said that the audience dodged a bullet with Hadid not getting the role.
"we dodged a bullet"
While another user (@sisisimon) believed that Hadid would have been "perfect" for the role,
"She should of been picked! She’s perfect for the roll!"
Another user (@arianatorswildt) joked that Hadid was not accomplished enough for the role,
"me applying to harvard with a 1.3 gpa and 97 absents"
Another user expressed (@limitless_yonko) admiration for the model to venture past her comfort zone:
"Honestly respect her for trying something outside her comfort zone. Not many would risk the rejection"
Another user (ً @FENDlSBLUNT) suggested that pop star Sabrina Carpenter would have been perfect for the role,
"sabrina deserves this role"
