Rush Hour 4 is reportedly one of the most anticipated films among fans who have enjoyed the franchise from the beginning. All three films in the franchise star Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker in the lead roles as two police officers. The first film came out in 1998, while the second and third installments were released in 2001 and 2007, respectively.
Recently, Jackie Chan spoke about the fourth installment and revealed whether he is open to doing it. Referring to himself and Tucker, Chan said,
"We'll be old men doing Rush Hour."
Let us look into what exactly Chan said about the fourth installment.
Jackie Chan talks about Rush Hour 4
Jackie Chan recently spoke to Screen Rant about the possibility of Rush Hour 4. He said,
"I don't know. Ask the director, ask the studio, ask the writer. Hurry up! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and me [will be] 100 years old. We'll be old men doing Rush Hour."
When asked if he wanted to do it, Chan responded:
"Yes! And I want to do [another] Shanghai Knights, Shanghai Dawn. Shangai Noon, Shanghai Knights, and Shanghai Dawn. The script is still going on. I want to do a Rush Hour 4"
Chan's comments hint that the fourth installment is currently in development.
The first film in the franchise, Rush Hour, was directed by Brett Ratner, and it focused on Chief Inspector Lee and Detective James Carter, who have to find the missing daughter of a Chinese diplomat. The story is by Ross LaManna, while the screenplay is by LaManna and Jim Kouf. Upon its release on September 18, 1998, the film grossed $244 million at the box office.
Its sequel, Rush Hour 2, was again helmed by Ratner while Jeff Nathanson wrote the script. The film has Tucker and Chan returning to their respective roles. It follows them enjoying a vacation in Hong Kong when they have to investigate the bombing of the American embassy. The film was released on August 3, 2001, and minted $347.3 million at the box-office.
Rush Hour 3 was the third entry in the franchise and had Ratner as well as Nathanson returning as the director and writer, respectively. Unlike the first two films in the franchise, Rush Hour 3 met with mostly negative critical response.
Since Chan has hinted at a possible Rush Hour 4, we can expect this film to come out soon. Chances are that it won't be directed by Ratner because of multiple assault allegations against him.
