Jessie J and Chanan Safir Colman are writing their own love story — on their own terms.

The English pop powerhouse, 37, and her retired basketball player partner, 41, welcomed their son Sky in May 2023, two years after they started dating. In a recent Zoom chat from a recording studio, Jessie shared how impressed she is with Chanan’s parenting skills.

“He has exceeded my expectations as a father beyond my imagination. I'm so grateful that he is so present and just so willing to adapt around obviously my career.”

But despite four years together and a growing family, don’t expect a rush to the altar anytime soon, explaining:

“We talk about it all the time, and we laugh about it all the time, and I'm sure we will, but we're not in any rush. I've always said that I'm not too fussed about getting married, and some people get really funny about that, but it's my own preference.”

Jessie’s vision of marriage is a meaningful family moment, not a hurried formality.

“I would love to get married when Sky's old enough to know what's happening so that he can be really a part of it and enjoy that moment of seeing Mummy and Daddy come together in our love. We have a child. I feel like that is the most locked in that we can feel with each other.”

While marriage is on the horizon “one day,” Jessie leaves the timing and the proposal up to Chanan. With a laugh, the Grammy-nominated singer said:

“I'm not proposing, even though I'm always the one that makes the move. I made a move on him, so he's got to make the move on me.”

On her thoughts about tying the knot, Jessie described marriage as “quite contractual,” but also expressed a desire for a heartfelt ceremony surrounded by loved ones.

“But I'm not in any rush. I know he loves me. He knows I love him. We're good.”

Jessie J pays tribute to Chanan Safir Colman in heartfelt post

Jessie and Chanan are believed to have begun dating sometime in 2021, but were first publicly linked in 2022.

The “Price Tag” hitmaker once posted a heartwarming message to her partner, saying:

“I met this man weeks after my miscarriage in 2021. Like a beam of light. He lit up my dark days. It was a whirlwind love and a miracle that we fell pregnant naturally with not one issue during.”

Jessie wrote the tribute to her partner after she gave birth to their firstborn in June 2023, writing:

“Grateful doesn’t cut it. He has given many of the best gifts of my life. He didn’t let go of my hand this day and I wouldn’t haven’t been able to go through it without him.”

In the three final lines, the singer named Chanan:

“The calm to my crazy. The Piece to my fear. The Daddy to my baby.”
