The Batman 2 is the forthcoming sequel to the 2022 superhero film The Batman. The first film was released on March 4, 2022, by Warner Bros. Pictures. Since then, fans have reportedly been waiting for the sequel.
Recently, DC Studios chief James Gunn has given an update about the film. This news comes ahead of the release of Superman, which he has written and directed. He stated that they would be reviewing the script of the Caped Crusader film very soon: "We're supposed to see that script shortly." James Gunn gives update on The Batman 2
James Gunn recently spoke to EW, where he gave an update on The Batman 2. He said,
"What Matt's doing is still really important, despite all stories to the contrary. We're supposed to see that script shortly, and I can't wait."
The sequel, which is currently untitled, will be released on October 1, 2027. Earlier this year, Gunn addressed the delay of The Batman 2. Responding to a query on X (formerly Twitter), he said:
"Sure. Yes, it is true. The only reason for the delay is there isn't a full script (those of you who follow me here probably know that already). Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films."
Fans can hope that the makers stick to the given release date of the film. The first film in the franchise, The Batman, was directed by Matt Reeves, who also wrote it with Peter Craig. The film starred Robert Pattinson, Paul Dano, Zoë Kravitz, and Jeffrey Wright, among others. Made on a budget of $185–200 million, it grossed $772.3 million.
DC underwent an overhaul after James Gunn and Peter Safran were installed as the co-CEO and co-Chairman of DC Studios. The first film in the DC Universe will be Superman, which will be released on July 11, 2025. It is also the maiden project of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The second entry will be Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which will come out on June 26, 2026. Some other titles include Clayface and Swamp Thing, as well as television shows like Creature Commandos.
