Phoebe Gates, co-founder of sustainable fashion platform Phia and the daughter of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and philanthropist Melinda French Gates, has attended numerous high-profile events before – but one recent situation popped up to her memory again when she laid her card first and won the game against the NFL legend Tom Brady.
"Well, I’m kind of a loser. So before the party, I had memorized the stats of how you can win blackjack … the best statistical plays to win because it’s a game of luck. Right?" Gates said during the April 30 episode of Call Her Daddy, hosted by Alex Cooper.
The events happened during a charity event, where the 7-time Super Bowl champion was enjoying the blackjack game when, all of a sudden, Gates came to the table and joined it.
“The mastermind beating Tom Brady”

Appearing next to her associate, Sophia Kianni, and her co-host at The Burnouts podcast, Gates described the event further. Gates noted that Kianni was 23 years old when she spoke of the crowd's state of astonishment as he dueled Brady as the main news.
“I look over, and the whole crowd is around Phoebe. The mastermind beating Tom Brady at blackjack. And everyone's like, ‘Who is that girl?’” Kianni recalled on the podcast.
There was a little chaos during the contest. Kianni revealed that she also fell from a spiral staircase during the event and was lucky to be helped by Jay-Z, a famous music personality.
“I’m gushing blood, losing this game. I have no idea how to play,” she said. “I look over and the whole crowd is around Phoebe.”
Gates’ hilarious bluff: “I’m an influencer”

Gates confessed that the situation was so unbelievable that she stated she had really felt the charm of the secret around her.
“I told everyone I was an influencer. I’m like, ‘It’s called IMG and I model for them. It was tough — DNA and IMG, they had a lot of debate over me, but it’s been a busy career,’” she joked.
Brady still remembers — even if he doesn’t know her name

It was Gates who talked about the second meeting with Brady after the event, and she added that even though he did not remember her name, he had not forgotten the situation.
“I ran into him once recently and he was like, ‘Blackjack,’” she recalled. “I’m like, ‘Yup.’ He doesn’t know my name. He just knows I was the girl with like the ink written of the different stats on my hand.”
A “nerdy” girl in a glamorous world

Even though Gates is hobnobbing with celebrity elites, she remains devoted to her humble roots and nerdy self-acknowledgment. Talking to Cooper, who wanted to know if she is “a Beatles person” (referring to her connection with Arthur Donald, the grandson of Paul McCartney), she just smirked.
“Oh man, it’s so bad. I’m so bad at music. I mean, my family, like, we’re so nerdy, so I knew nothing about music — like I knew about tech stuff growing up, not music stuff,” she admitted.
