Television icon Wendy Williams recently spoke to TMZ and clarified that she was not aware of the lawsuit filed by her ex-husband on her behalf. Williams was referring to the lawsuit filed by Kevin Hunter on June 17.
Williams, in her exclusive statement to TMZ, said,
“I had no idea [about the lawsuit]. Nor do I want him to be a part of my life like that, no. Because I'm divorced forever. He's a money-grubber; he's always been that way. It's good to know that he's doing such evil things again.”
The lawsuit filed by Hunter, which he claimed was on behalf of his former wife, to whom he was married for 21 years, seeks to safeguard Williams’s constitutional rights and claim financial compensation worth $250.
According to a June 19 publication by People Magazine, Hunter is suing Wendy's legal guardian, Sabrina Morrisey, and Lisa Sokoloff, the judge presiding over Wendy's guardianship case.

Wendy Williams’ attorney, Joe Tacopina, reiterated her statement. Tacopina spoke to People Magazine about Hunter’s lawsuit. He said,
“He has no standing to add her name [to the lawsuit] or no authority from Wendy whatsoever. And we certainly don't need his help if we want to file a lawsuit. So, thanks, but no thanks.”
Why Wendy Williams’ ex-husband filed a lawsuit
The lawsuit filed by Kevin Hunter on June 17 is in reference to the court-appointed guardianship imposed on Wendy Williams in 2022.
According to People Magazine, Williams was first placed under temporary financial guardianship after her bank, Wells Fargo, froze her account and petitioned the court. In its filing, Wells Fargo stated that the bank had:
“strong reason to believe that [Williams] is the victim of undue influence and financial exploitation”
The bank’s actions to freeze Williams’ account and petition the court were prompted by the concerns raised by Williams’ then financial advisor, Lori Schiller, who allegedly informed the bank that her client was of ‘unsound mind,’ as per the Los Angeles Times.
After the proceedings in which the court reviewed testimony and medical reports to ascertain whether Williams was capable of managing her affairs, the court appointed attorney Sabrina Morrissey as Williams’ guardian.

As per the New York Post, Williams was also diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, a condition that causes memory loss, in 2023.
According to a report by People Magazine, which quoted Williams, the guardianship allegedly gave Morrissey authority over Williams’personal and financial matters.
The publication also quoted Williams’ healthcare advocate, Ginalisa Monterroso, who, while commenting on Williams’ rights under the guardianship, alleged,
“Somebody in prison has more rights than a person put under a guardianship.”
Since the beginning of the year, Williams has been protesting and has been asking to be freed from the restrictions imposed upon her because of the guardianship order, per People Magazine.
Meanwhile, the lawsuit filed by Kevin Hunter names 48 defendants, including Sabrina Morrissey and Lisa Sokoloff, the judge presiding over Williams' case. While expressing her displeasure at her ex-husband’s actions regarding the lawsuit, Wendy Williams also communicated her confidence in the fact that Hunter would not get a favourable result from it.
