Nina Dobrev and Shaun White reportedly had plans to work on their dream home together a month before they called it quits.

The Vampire Diaries star and Olympian snowboarder ended their relationship after five years together. Just this July, Nina joked about their major renovations at home in a video online. At the time, she reflected on her financial commitments, noting:

“When you’re getting married and building a house in the same year," she penned onscreen. "How much do we have left?” she lip-synced in the clip, while Shaun, 39, replied, “Forty bucks.” In response, she jokingly asked, “That’s it?”

Nina Dobrev and Shaun White got engaged in October 2024. Around that time, she spoke to Us Weekly about the moment her beau asked her the big question:

“I went into shock. I just froze and stared at him,” she recalled. “He said all the right things. … Eventually we realized — other than the caviar [Shaun set out] — we hadn’t eaten anything. So, we ordered Shake Shack and dumplings [from] the Golden Swan.”

However, in March this year, the actress divulged that they had no plans of walking down the aisle anytime soon. Speaking with E! News, she said:

“I really want to enjoy it and not rush that process. We’re just enjoying being engaged at this point and being in that sort of phase because a lot of your life is — you have a boyfriend for half of your life and then you have a husband for half of your life, but the fiancé period is very short. It’s so fun to say fiancé.”

Nina Dobrev revealed at the time that she wanted to have her wedding ceremony be “as low-impact as possible.”

As of this writing, neither the actress nor White have commented on the breakup. However, a source close to the two reportedly told People Magazine:

“It was a mutual decision, and wasn’t an easy one, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another.”

Per Us Weekly, the pair were last spotted publicly together in Los Angeles on August 31. Just a few days later, Nina Dobrev made it out solo at the TIFF premiere of Eternity. She was also spotted without her engagement ring. The following day, she shared a cryptic video to TikTok about “fixing a man.”

“How do you sleep at night knowing people don’t like you?” she lip-synched in the footage. “With no underwear, in case they wanna kiss my ass.” The audio continued, “What’s your advice for women trying to fix their man? Listen, Bob the Builder, he’s got 10 other women trying to fix him too, and you all look like a damn construction crew.”
