As per US Weekly, director James Cameron calls out Amy Poehler for joking about her marriage to Kathryn Bigelow at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards. During a recent interview with The New York Times, Cameron said that Poehler went too far with her joke:

“Amy Poehler’s remark was an ignorant dig, at an event which is supposed to be a celebration of cinema and filmmakers, not a roast.I’m pretty thick-skinned, and happy to be the butt of a good-natured joke, but that went too far."

In 2013, Amy Poehler and Saturday Night Live host Tina Fey hosted the 2013 Golden Globe Awards. Bigelow was among the nominees that the comedians made fun of in their monologue. Poehler joked about nominated director Kathryn Bigelow at the Golden Globe Awards in 2013:

“I haven’t been following the controversy surrounding Zero Dark Thirty.

She continued:

“But when it comes to torture, I trust the woman who spent three years married to James Cameron.”

A crowd that might have been settling in for a more compassionate Globes erupted in enormous, surprised laughter at the line. While Poehler joked about Cameron's marriage around ten years ago, Cameron expressed that he was hurt by the joke. He told the outlet:

“The fact that people found it funny shows exactly what they think of me, even though they have no idea who I am or how I work.”

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey also joked about other celebrities, including Anna Hathaway and Quentin Tarantino. Tina Fey joked at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards:

“Quentin Tarantino is here, the star of all my sexual nightmares?"

Referencing Hathaway’s ill-fated hosting turn, Fey said at the award show:

“You gave a stunning performance in Les Miserables. I have not seen someone so alone and abandoned like that since you were onstage with James Franco at the Oscars.”

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are best friends in real life.

About James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow face-off

James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow got married in 1989. In 1991, the couple broke up. After splitting up, Cameron and Bigelow worked together on several projects, including Point Break and Strange Days, and maintained a cordial relationship despite their divorce.

Cameron and Bigelow came face-to-face at the 2010 Academy Awards. Bigelow was nominated for The Hurt Locker, and Cameron was nominated for Best Director for Avatar. Bigelow became the first woman to win the prize and ultimately defeated her ex-husband.

James Cameron appreciated his ex-wife when she won the prize. He told The New York Times:

"I was the first one on my feet applauding," and expressed his wish that the Academy had "shared the love" with the winners.

Cameron also criticized the Academy Awards earlier this month for not giving enough recognition and accolades to science fiction movies. During an interview with The Globe and Mail, Cameron stated:

"I don't think about the Academy Awards that much...I don't intentionally consider that right now. They don't usually respect science fiction or movies like Avatar, therefore I don't aim to make a film that appeals to their sensibilities."

James Cameron went on to say that he is not the only science fiction director who has been passed over, pointing out that Denis Villeneuve and the Dune films have also been treated similarly.
