Veteran actor and former governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, at Amazon's Upfront presentation on May 12, 2025, in New York City, cracked a joke about his ex-wife Maria Shriver. The Predator star was married to the NBC journalist for 25 long years before they got divorced on December 28, 2021.

At Amazon's Upfront presentation, Arnold talked about his upcoming action-comedy film, The Man with the Bag, as he was promoting it. He also mentioned one of his all-time holiday classics, Jingle All the Way, which Schwarzenegger declared the greatest Christmas movie of all time. The 77-year-old actor said:

"They play it (Jingle All the Way) the whole month of December."

Arnold, then, made an unexpected crack about his former wife, Maria Shriver, saying:

"I know because my ex-wife calls me about the residual."

The comment regarding Shriver came as a surprise to most of Arnold's fans, as it was the first time in over two years that he said anything about his ex-wife. The former couple's long-term relationship came to an end in 2011 because of Arnold's unfaithfulness. Things took a different turn in their marriage when news broke out about Schwarzenegger's relationship with the family housekeeper.

The divorce between the Commando star and Shriver was finalized in December 2021. According to People, the former Governor of California and businessman, Arnold, later publicly confessed that he had a son, Joseph Baena, with their family housekeeper, Mildred Baena.

Shriver, who shares two daughters, Christina and Katherine, and two sons, Patrick and Christopher, with Arnold, talked about her heartbreak and agony in her memoir I Am Maria: My Reflections and Poems on Heartbreak, Healing, and Finding Your Way, which was released on April 1, 2025, after her split from Schwarzenegger.

Shriver's memoir, which also contains a collection of poems written by Maria herself, touches upon sensitive subjects such as heartbreak and healing. In the memoir, Maria talked about how she expressed herself through poetry. Shriver explained:

"I started writing from a deep place within. Through my poetry, I've found a woman who was terrified of not being able to live up to her family's legacy—scared of not being big enough, a good-enough daughter, sister, wife, mother, journalist."

An excerpt from Shriver's memoir, I Am Maria, reads:

"It broke my heart, it broke my spirit, it broke what was left of me. Without my marriage, my parents, a job—the dam of my lifelong capital-D Denial just blew apart."
