Brent Faiyaz is a well-known contemporary R&B musician and songwriter. Lately, though, rumors of a potential romance with singer and actress Halle Bailey have shifted the attention back to his personal life.
Brent Faiyaz grew up as Christopher Brent Wood in Columbia, Maryland, a suburb just outside Baltimore. Half African American, half Dominican, Faiyaz was rather introverted growing up and often sought solace in music.
According to the BET Soul Train Awards, he began making songs at a young age and released them on SoundCloud. His stage name, "Faiyaz," is an Arabic word for "artistic." This name was recommended to him by a muslim classmate.
Faiyaz has recently been subject to romance gossip, with rumors circulating about a potential romance with The Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey emerging after the pair were reportedly spotted together at Paris Fashion Week 2024.
The rumour was further fueled when Halle reportedly took her son off to the Bahamas with Brent, amidst her former lover DDG’s claims that he has not been allowed to spend time with his son, Halo. Neither Faiyaz nor Bailey has publicly addressed the speculations as of yet.
DDG confirmed his split with Halle Bailey on October 3, 2024, through his Instagram stories. The rapper wrote that the decision to break up was not taken lightly but was based on what would be best for both of them going forward:
"This decision was not easy, but we believe it’s the best path forward for both of us. I cherish the time we’ve spent together and the love we’ve shared," he shared on his Instagram.
A look into Brent Faiyaz’s early career and rise to fame
Brent Faiyaz, for the most part, had been following his solo career since the late 2000s. According to All Music, the mainstream breakthrough for Faiyaz came in 2016, when he appeared as a featured artist on GoldLink’s Grammy-nominated hit “Crew” with Shy Glizzy.
It was a triple platinum hit, and it introduced Brent’s vocals to a larger audience. He simultaneously created the group Sonder with producers Dpat and Atu. In 2017, the trio released the Into EP.
Following this success, Brent Faiyaz released his debut solo album Sonder Son, which he recorded on a month-long trip to the Dominican Republic.
Brent Faiyaz has since released a strong discography, with the help of his recent releases F*ck the World and then Wasteland in 2022 that touches up on themes of fame, love and growing as a person. In 2023, he dropped the mixtape Larger Than Life, which had several collaborations and guest appearances, including Missy Elliott, A$AP Rocky, and more.
