Britani Bateman has been accused of stealing thousands from her ailing former mother-in-law in a new civil lawsuit, the Daily Mail has reported.

Sandra Underwood, the mom of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star's ex-husband John Scott Underwood, filed the lawsuit against the latter earlier this month. She is accusing the 53-year-old of failing to repay the $100,000 she borrowed when her bank account was depleted.

According to the outlet, Sandra, 87, claims Bateman used the funds for 'her own personal benefit.' The money had been deposited into a trust fund back in 2021, which named Britani as one of its beneficiaries.

The complaint states, "Britani willfully, maliciously and through intentionally fraudulent conduct, also converted Plaintiff's funds and now refuses to repay the funds."IIt adds, Bateman “has been unjustly enriched.”

Britani Bateman's legal woes explored:

This March, according to Page Six, Sandra's attorney sent Bateman a letter requesting that she return the money. However, in her filing, Sandra alleged that “to date [she has] not yet received the return of my money.” The letter was included as an exhibit in the filing, and it claimed that Sandra received $338,889.31 after she sold off her home in West Valley, Utah.

Not long after, she claimed “at the urging of Britani,” she deposited the funds into the trust, under the impression that she could “request it to be withdrawn at any time” and that it would “be returned without any objection.”

“As Britani knows, Sandra is in her 80s and as she has aged, her cost of living has gone up mostly because of health issues which most elderly people experience,” the letter states, per Page Six.

Sandra's lawyers are contending that her “limited income” of approximately $1,600 is “not sufficient” to incur the costs of her medical care and cost of living. She is asking that Britani Bateman, “out of simple decency and morality,” return the sum, "plus interest at the statutory rate prescribed by law, and cover any attorney fees.

Tribune has reported that Bateman's father, Melvin Merrill Martin, set up the trust, titled “Integrity Trust,” in 2019 at the former's behest. Britani Bateman and her late mother were named as trustees, with John being named as the successor trustee.

The Daily Mail has also reported that Sandra also contributed $217,000 towards building a home for herself on her Britani Bateman's 10,000 square feet estate in Provo, Utah, though she is not asking for this money back. The residence is currently under renovation, and it boasts six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and two kitchens.

She wished for the renovations to include

"building out a pool and a really beautiful backyard" and "another garage with an apartment above,'"

so the property can be an open home for

"nieces, nephews, [and] kids that need a place to live temporarily," Sandra said, according to the outlet.

Britani Bateman divorced Sandra's son back in March 2023, and by October, it was finalized.
