Catherine Paiz is setting the record straight about her marriage to estranged husband Austin McBroom.
The Ace Family YouTuber recently sat down for a segment on the Call Her Daddy podcast, where she spoke to host Alex Cooper about the first time she discovered the father of her kids had been philandering while she was pregnant. During the segment, she said, with her voice raspy as she held back tears:
"You never cheat on the person you love."
Paiz, whose real name is Dolores Catherine Johnston Paiz, also addressed Austin's claim that she had granted him permission to cheat on her, so long as he never "embarrassed" her:
"I never, ever, ever said that," she said. "I would never want my kids to think that is okay, to cheat on your husband or your wife." She pledged, "And I will make sure that I raise them, and that they know that they never, ever do that. Because that is so wrong. And you never cheat on the person you love."
Catherine Paiz, 34, and Austin McBroom, 33, share three kids: Elle, 8, Alaia, 6, and Steel, 4. The pair, who divorced last year, were most known for their vlogging channel on YouTube, known as The Ace Family. They launched the channel in 2016, and over the years, have amassed over 18 million subscribers.
Catherine Paiz says alleged philandering husband Austin McBroom will always be her "best friend"
The Ace Family's YouTube channel boasts over 18.4 million subscribers on YouTube and almost 14 million followers on their Instagram accounts. Catherine Paiz announced in an Instagram post on January 11, 2024, that she would be leaving her husband, as the caption read:
"As I start this new year, I will challenge myself in ways that I have never done before. 2024 will be my year of transformative change and with this taking place, one of the steps in my journey is the difficult decision to leave my marriage." She went on, "We have mutually agreed to a divorce and will part amicably. Our paths as a couple have shifted and has created challenges that are irreconcilable. This decision comes with a very heavy heart. As heartbreaking as this is, I also feel liberated."
Catherine Paiz went on, noting that she "spent the past few years prioritizing my children and honoring my commitments to my family," during which time, she apparently lost herself and her "own personal happiness."
"Our main priority will be to stay united as parents and to continue creating a stable, happy, and loving environment for our children. Thank you to all of my supporters for giving me a safe space to be able to use my voice and share our love," she wrote. "I love you all so much and I'm beyond grateful for all the support we've received from you throughout all these years as a couple," she added.
She concluded the statement by penning a sweet message to her estranged husband, noting that he will always be her best friend.
During her recent podcast segment, Catherine Paiz recalled the number of times McBroom cheated on her, noting that she doesn't "remember exactly the first, there were just so many," before claiming it could be twenty. She said she found out about the infidelity the first time when she found an incriminating text from another woman on his phone:
"I grabbed the phone. This long text comes through 'If you really love your wife.' I was like yelling, screaming, 'Tell me please, please just tell me who that was. I feel so stupid, just tell me. I'm having a baby, please just tell me.'"
She also recalled feeling like she was being 'gaslighted.'
"Is he telling the truth? Am I just being all in my head?" she recalled wondering. "I was so afraid to say 'I'm an idiot.' I just didn't see it," she added. "I never heard him say the words 'I cheated' until about a week ago."
Catherine Paiz's new memoir, Dolores: My Journey Home: Finding Myself Beyond the ACE Family, releases this July 1. It reportedly touches on McBroom's philandering ways, though more details remain scarce.
