Matthew Hughes has been found guilty of stalking and breaking and entering Eminem's house twice.
As reported by XXL Magazine, on Wednesday, May 7, a jury in Macomb County, Michigan, found the 32-year-old guilty of first-degree home invasion and aggravated stalking for breaking into the rapper's residence in Clinton Township, Michigan.
The incident took place last August, and he was later arrested for trespassing. The verdict was delivered after 90 minutes of deliberations following a trial that spanned two days. During this time, Eminem was called to the stand to testify.
Everything we know about the case against Matthew David Hughes, Eminem's stalker
According to Complex, Matthew David Hughes first broke into Slim Shady's house back in 2020, when he woke him up. During the debacle, he confronted the rapper and threatened to kill him before the rapper pinned him down until the police arrived.
Shortly after the first incident in 2020, Hughes agreed to a plea deal and was consequently sentenced to five years of probation, though he was later cuffed again when he violated his probation.
In May 2024, he was released from prison on parole, but was arrested once again when he was discovered sleeping in a guest house that the veteran rapper once owned.
During the August 2024 incident, per XXL Magazine, Hughes entered the rapper's home once again via an unlocked door and stole a bike inside the house. However, when Em's security team spotted him, he fled. Four days later, he was spotted at a local Walmart and promptly arrested.
Hughes has been behind bars since the incident and was prohibited from engaging in any contact with Eminem. He also failed to post the $500,000 bond set by the presiding judge in December that same year, having been charged with assault at the time.
XXL Magazine has also reported that Hughes has, in the past, been booked twice for entering two properties looking for the rapper in 2019. One of them was formerly owned by the rapper, and police describe him as a transient.
In other news, Eminem recently celebrated becoming a grandfather after his daughter, Hailie Jade Scott, and her husband, Evan McClintock, welcomed their firstborn son this March, named Elliot Marshall McClintock.
Scott took to Instagram to share the happy news, writing, “Happy due date//3 weeks earthside little e,” and coupled it with a carousel of images of her son. Born on March 14, she also revealed that her son shares his middle name with his grandfather, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III.
