RealBleeda, a rapper closely affiliated with the Bleedas gang, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with first-degree murder.

WBRZ has reported that the rapper was arrested over a 2024 shooting that claimed the life of 41-year-old Teressa Calligan on September 15, at the intersection of Airline Highway and Greenwell Street. Hypefresh has reported that she was driving by the crossing when she was hit with a bullet from a drive-by shooting, which immediately claimed her life.

As a result, her car rammed straight into a sheriff’s deputy’s unit. Investigators eventually ruled her cause of death to be an accident, indicating that she was just an innocent bystander.

The Baton Rouge rapper, 22, legally known as David Catherine, was cuffed on June 10. He now faces first-degree murder charges, in addition to allegations that he was targeting someone else on the day of the incident, instead of the educator cum community advocate who died.

As reported by WBRZ, Calligan served as the dean of coding for the Futures Fund division of the Walls Project, which aimed to equip teens with skills related to programming. She reportedly helped well over 4,000 teens since she began her work in 2014. She also worked as a cybersecurity specialist at Entergy, where she pushed for digital literacy and economic empowerment.

One of her relatives said in the wake of her demise:

"It's just things are not the same without her."

Casey Phillips, founder of The Walls Project, said of her late co-worker:

"Teressa was a powerhouse. She didn't just teach code. She taught resilience, she taught vision. Losing her is like losing a lighthouse in a storm."

The Baton Rouge Police also issued a statement via its spokesperson, Darren Ahmed:

"In this instance, she just wasn't the target they were looking for; she was an innocent bystander going on about her business."

At the time of his arrest, RealBleeda was out on bond for unrelated gun and drug charges that came on the heels of an arrest earlier this year. His legal woes intensified this May, when footage of him allegedly wielding a firearm during a confrontation with what is suspected to be members of a rival gang.

The incident unfolded outside Pecanland Mall in Monroe on May 19, and footage of the same went viral online, contributing to the investigators' quest to identify him:

“We can do it in this b**** we can tear that a** up right now," he said in the clip.

RealBleeda was cuffed two days later and booked on two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, rioting, and illegal weapons possession, AllHipHop reported. His bond had been set at $22,500.

Nonetheless, RealBleeda was active in his social life. His recent visit in March to the Park Forest Middle School, his alma mater, elicited a wave of controversy, as he was seen donating games and snacks for LEAP tests to the students. He filmed his experience for his music video, which also showed him pointing a gun at the camera. The students followed suit, mimicking gun gestures with their hands.

The video sparked outrage online, with Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill also chiming in. She slammed the school for permitting RealBleeda's visitation:

"It was unacceptable," she said. "We should be safeguarding our students, not exposing them to glorified gang culture."

AllHipHop further reports that the rapper is now expected for a bond review hearing on Wednesday, July 17. His motion hearing is scheduled for Monday, August 12.
