Dave Smith is calling for Trump's impeachment, a stark contrast to his vocal support for the president in the past.
The comedian cum frequent guest on Joe Rogan's podcast has since apologized for rallying for the incumbent president in the past. Smith, who serves as host of the libertarian podcast Part of the Problem, backtracked on his sentiments following Trump's latest policy on Iran.
“I supported him last year,” he said recently on the YouTube Breaking Points podcast. "I apologize for doing so. It was a bad calculation. At the time, it seemed like the right one. He should be impeached and removed. His supporters should turn on him. It’s an absolute betrayal of everything he ran & campaigned on. He’ll lose his coalition on this.”
Dave Smith also slammed the president's support of Israel's military strikes and accused the latter of going back on his previous pledges to end wars.
Dave Smith slams the president, says he's going to apologize for the rest of his life for voting for him:
Dave Smith's comments come on the heels of Israel's preemptive strike on Iran's nuclear facilities, which took place last week. At the time, the former cited concerns over the nuclear program, though Iran has refuted these concerns.
In the days since, tensions between the two countries have escalated quickly, culminating in missile attacks on either end. There is a rise in civilian casualties as well, with the conflict now entering its fourth day.
Newsweek has reported that at least 224 people have been slain since Friday, with over 1,200 injuries clocked. Human rights groups believe these numbers to be higher than projected. In Israel, 24 have been killed and over 500 injured at the same time.
According to Daily Beast, Trump is currently in the hopes of getting either party to come to a settlement, despite being concerned about the United States' involvement. He took to his platform, Truth Social, just this Saturday, where he warned:
“The U.S. had nothing to do with the attack on Iran, tonight. If we are attacked in any way, shape or form by Iran, the full strength and might of the U.S. Armed Forces will come down on you at levels never seen before. However, we can easily get a deal done between Iran and Israel, and end this bloody conflict!!!”
He doubled down on his sentiments in another post on the platform the following day:
“Iran and Israel should make a deal, and will make a deal” and “many calls and meetings [are] now taking place.” “I do a lot, and never get credit for anything,” the president continued. “But that’s OK, the PEOPLE understand. MAKE THE MIDDLE EAST GREAT AGAIN!”
Dave Smith, however, remains unconvinced. He said on Monday,
“Donald Trump telling [Iran] to come back to the negotiating table now is a joke. I mean what an impotent leader! To be sitting there talking about coming back to the negotiating table. It’s like sitting there after Pearl Harbor and telling FDR now is the time to go negotiate with the Japanese. Negotiations are over now.”
During a bilateral meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the G7 summit, Trump said:
"They should talk, and they should talk immediately. I'd say Iran is not winning this war."
Dave Smith's remarks from back in March have also resurfaced, when he declared:
“If Donald Trump actually does launch a war in Iran, not only will I not support it, I will apologize for the rest of my life for voting for the guy.”
