The director explained that, although he does not share Trump’s political views, his time working with him on set was a pleasant experience. He said Trump came across as professional and capable on camera.

Allen also noted that he was surprised by Trump’s later move into politics. At the time, he only knew Trump as a businessman and someone who enjoyed public events. The director said he did not expect Trump to choose a path in public office.

Woody Allen’s comments on politics and acting

Allen also explained that his praise was not political in any way. He said it was based only on what he saw while directing Trump in Celebrity.

The director even joked about wanting to direct Trump again, saying he would not mind directing him as President if given the chance.
