Ezra Miller, the actor who’s best known for portraying The Flash in DC’s superhero movies, has been mired in legal issues and controversies over the past few years. From arrests to grooming charges, their career has been filled with scandals. Now, as Miller suggests a Hollywood comeback, people and the general media are now looking back on the allegations that were made against the actor.
The most troubling controversy involving Miller was related to Tokata Iron Eyes, a teenage activist whom Miller had known since she was 12.
According to an article by The Independent, in 2022, Tokata’s parents, Chase Iron Eyes and Sara Jumping Eagle, alleged that Miller groomed and manipulated their daughter, saying that the actor provided her with drugs and that they had “cult like control” over Tokata Iron Eyes.
Chase Iron Eyes said,
"We thought Ezra had good intentions. But we were groomed too. We were made to trust this guy."
Miller had supposedly taken Tokata on a road trip, during which the parents accused Miller of involving their daughter in voodoo rituals and several drug parties. The charges were eventually dropped, and Tokata’s father, Chase Iron Eyes, even admitted in 2024 that his allegations were influenced by false rumors.
In a recent interview with Lo Speciale Giornale, Ezra Miller said that he now feels “a lot of remorse” for how that time went down, but also regards the experience as one from which they’ve learned key lessons.
Miller said,
"Not that I don't hold a lot of remorse and lamentation for a lot of things that I did... But I'm really, really grateful for the lessons that came with that abyss."
They also said that their return to Hollywood remains to be seen; the actor has been busy behind the scenes, but they also stated that their relationship with Hollywood remains on "tentative grounds".
The actor said,
"If you've been in the woods for three years, I do not recommend going straight to Cannes."
A look into Ezra Miller's few other initial allegations and mental health struggles
Allegations against Ezra Miller started in April 2022 with several arrests and disturbing speculations. According to People, in March that year, they were arrested in Hawaii for disorderly conduct and harassment following accusations that they had shouted obscenities at bar customers and lunged at a man playing darts.
Some weeks later (March 2022), they were arrested again in Hawaii on second-degree assault charges after they allegedly threw a chair at a woman, cutting her forehead.
Some time later that summer (August 2022), Miller faced a felony burglary charge in Vermont and was accused of breaking into a residence there and stealing alcohol. They pleaded not guilty but ultimately reached a plea agreement in January 2023, admitting to trespass without authority in return for the dismissal of the felony charges.
During the scandals, around August 2022, Ezra Miller apologized publicly and talked about their mental health battles.
They told People Magazine,
"Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment."
Now, as Ezra Miller gets ready to make his way back into the Hollywood world, they doubt whether the industry is ready to accept them with open arms.
